Now I'm not ranting about alchemy i love the trade and it helps me out a ton, the benefit from potions is huge to me personally.

The Rant! I'm tired of people offering me shit deal for my services. I feel my prices are fair and if you dont like that I mark up a small %age from base price to make a profit I'm sorry but I did not spend 35k to get to the skill to make a potions for a 10pp profit.

Believe it or not port pots cost 285p per piece ( I've definitely had people tell me they cost no more than 100p a piece ) and I spent 35k skilling up to the point to make them, if you dont feel that a small mark up is worth it im sorry but dont bitch at me.

I don't regret my tradeskill choice it benefits me greatly whether its potions for personal use or to give to raid/friends. but don't sit there and talk to me like im ripping you off charging a small mark up on potions because YOU dont feel its worth it, thats what i pay and have paid. If you don't want it fine but don't talk to me like im marking up 100s and 100s of plat per potion, its fair.

OR find someone thats willing to make potions at cost or less than cost if you think its really worth about 100p per.

These are the same people that say 800pp for a set of Fine Steel is overpriced.

Cost to make a full set of 13 pieces _without_any_fails_ is 635pp.
I already offer a very substantial mark down for buying a full set of medium, when piecemeal I sell it for 10pp each (131*10 is far less than 800).
The cheapest failed combine is 30pp, and can go all the way up to 90pp for a failed breastplate. Levelling smithing to this point has cost over 5kpp, and I was levelling it intelligently with an eye toward minimizing loss.

In conclusion: fuck off, no I won't sell a set of Fine Steel for 400 (which is a number I miraculously get from people time after time apparently because "it has no stats qq"), because I could vendor it for more.

because I could vendor it for more.

Unfortunately there is 0 turn around for alchemy, my highest vendor sales have been no more than 3pp per potion. including the port pots.

Honestly I thought these were more of a server need than a profit as I didn't see any for sale.

Its hard to sell potions. People dont understand thier worth. The ONLY thing that came out of Bazaar was it made it 100x easier to sell potions. But we'll never have to worry about Bazaar so itll alway suck =/

Someone actually approached me back in December or something about forming a union amongst Shaman Alchemists. He wanted us all to convene and decide on some standardized prices for the more popular potions so that we weren't undercutting each other and screwing ourselves. I thought this was a ridiculous idea - if people want to sell shit cheap, I say let em - but I can understand his concern. I was never in it for the money (I've never had much luck selling potions, even the cool ones before anyone else could make them) and when I realized I couldn't get the Journeyman tag (which you can't get any more anyways!) I stopped dumping all my pp into alchemy. Now I'm glad I did as many of the potions have turned out to be extremely useful.

Well maybe the time has come. Perhaps we should unionize and increase prices to a "fair" level!

Jeremy, hit me up anytime for a unionization for potion prices. Not that i see a lot of undercutting i just see a lack of need on the servers half. Whos going to pay nearly 300pp for a port to inno when they can donate to a druid for a port to sro/feer for whatever.

But there are a lot of potions that can't be matched, 40hp regen per tick! 25pt stat increase that stacks with Every buff, this nearly caps my halfling war friend on sta, the ds the ivu...there are SO MANY pots that could help damn near everyone but they don't want to spend the money.

The mats are just a little to expensive in the first place to make it. I mean really the classes that could benefit most from these potions couldnt afford them in the first place

you cant really compare that, since fine steel armor isnt really that good (until the AC fix hits at last) so its not really worth it.. im not saying you should sell it for 400.. if you are lucky and make it without a fail and pay 635pp, you should at last get 800 (if not 1k) for the armor.. the sad point is, i can buy bronze armor for WAY less and the difference (at the moment) isnt as big as the money difference, thats why people QQ about it..
i can proudly say i began playing with a complete fine steel set which cost 1000 platin, some nice guildmember lend me the money back then, i really appreciated it.

in other words: if you got the money, FS armor is definitly the way to go (especially when the AC patch comes) but for newbies, its probably more sensefull to go for bronze armor or

now the potions, they are usefull - always and everywhere, people just dont appreciate that and dont think about the costs behind making those potions.. almost every potion stacks with an equivalent type of spell (like MR buff + dex buff + mr/dex potion <3) you can "buff" the hell out of yourself..
shrink potions are the only way to shrink outdoors now (kinda usefull in zones like HK etc), also a twink without jboots just NEEDS sow pots (you are soooooooo friggn slow without sow/jboots.. sigh)
and theres more, damageshield pots are awesome and stack with other damageshields too afaik, the gate potion is a GREAT life saver, and thinkin about it sells for ~300pp is still way cheaper than buying items with a 1time clicky port for 800pp+...
instant port can often safe your ass, its like your own private evac..

so all in all: give more love to the alchemists, potions are great and they are worth their price, stop QQing and enjoy the fact, that people took the effort in skilling up their alchemy to provide us with their powerfull utilities!
