View Full Version : Time limit on killing a contested mob

Recently, I've run into a situation twice in South Karana. I spawn and track Quillmane for people I sell cloaks to. When I do this, I kill a few placeholders and then track. I know Quillmane is a FTE mob since it cannot be camped unless you have someone sitting on each of the three possible spawn points. However, most people are pretty courteous and leave Quillmane alone when they realize someone in zone is spawning her.
Lately, I've run into a situation in which a low level ranger in his 20s, who I will leave unnamed, basically kites Quillmane around and kills slowly, basically hitting mob, snaring, and the medding to regen health again. Basically, it turns into an almost 20 minute kill process for this guy, which is about the amount of time it basically takes to spawn Quillmane. I'm wondering if there is a time limit on contested mobs? Can they be kited around and killed slowly over a period of 20 or more minutes?

I don't see why not as long as he has the potential to do it himself, and is not indefinitely kiting while waiting for others, which counts as stalling. Of course if it was me I would be kind enough to leave it alone if I knew someone else was there first and doing it.

If this was the case no bard swarm kiting would be allowed. As long as the person could kill said mob he should be allowed all the time in the world. I agree it is kind of frustrating I remember the days in OOT where bards would have all the seafuries running around dying slowly while none spawned.

don't give this idea back to the bards lol I haven't seen any there in ages.

Haha yeah. I never take more than 2 seafuries at once. A bard should be swapping back and forth charm to bring them down or be dotting one that is chasing him/her. Taking any more than 2 seafuries at once, unless accidentally aggroing more, is pretty rude in my opinion.

Basically it took a level 20 basically 20 minutes to kill a basically level 30 mob. Apparently all your basically belong to him.

Haha, I just noticed how much I used "basically" in my first post. At least I didn't have any typos.

I killed Quillmane for my cloak at level 18 by kiting him around and bellowing him down over 15 minutes. So long as your actively killing the mob i don't think there is a thing you can or should do about it it.

If you think that it was inevitable that he'd kill the mob, why not just help him kill it to speed things up?

probably because he was a bit pissed off that someone would take it from him despite being there and camping it. I don't know if I would help someone who knowingly took a named I was camping. Although I agree on how it would speed up the kill.

Yeah, it was one of those things in which I felt, "why bother spawning the mob/killing it anymore if the ranger with better track will keep tagging it first".
I was annoyed at the time, but I know the ranger had every right to tag and kill it. Now, that I know the rule that time it takes to kill doesn't matter. I'll keep that in mind for the future.
Thank you for input everyone.

same shit has happened to me, first time the guy (was a shaman) zoned it and i killed it for another pair of legs, second time he decided to try again he spent 20 minutes and finally killed it for a cloak. that was after i gave him the legs from the first one he failed to kill cause what do i need with 8 pairs of the same shitty legs.
its one of those "everyone agrees its a dick move, but what can you do" situations.

You can't call out "camping Quillmane"?

Doesn't even matter if he isn't in the act of killing it. As long as he gets fte, the mob is his until he dies or he zones. That comes straight from Ephi.

one time i ran into quillmane at 100%. started attacking it, and someone sent me a tell saying "stop, i have it rooted, holding it for someone else"
is that allowed?

Did your MQ's HoTT tell you if that person actually had aggro? If so things are really complicated.

Please don't say things like this, stupid people miinterrupt the rules and start quoting posts like this for rules.

no idea what MQ's HoTT even means =p
it was rooted though so i assume there was agro. are you really allowed to "hold" mobs like that though? he said the person he was holding it for wasn't even in the zone yet.

I would assume that you cannot hold Quillmane and just stall, as I would consider her a contested mob.
To who asked earlier, you cannot call Quillmane as a camp unless you have someone sitting on all 3 spawn points. Considering you need a 4th person killing placeholders at Aviak Village, it's unlikely that most people trying to get a cloak have the numbers to "claim" the camp when they are spawning Quillmane. For this reason, tension runs high when the person spawning Quillmane realizes someone else is killing Quillmane.

Theres no holding any mob, if your not engaged in actively killing it its ffa. people have tried this forever root a mob for 45 minutes while your buddy runs from 5 zones over, meanwhile you have 6 people watching waiting for him to get a resist and die.
Mob must be actively engaged
