Hi, I recently joined Project 1999 and have been loving it so far. Since leaving EQ shortly after Luclin and playing almost every other mmo on the market I have yet to find a challenging and rewarding game such as the original EQ.

I have noticed that night blindness has been reduced significantly from the original. I was wondering if this feature would make a return. I searched the forums and found that it was a client issue and they were working on a fix. However, that was about a year ago and I was curious if there was any update on this? Also, how does the general community feel about this feature? I felt it added a layer of difficulty and immersion that isn't found in most mmo's.

Definitely worth changing if they can find a way to!

From my brief enchanter playing days on P99 I noticed there is still a difference between human vision, infravision and ultravision - and the difference between humans and dark elves is still significant.

But yeah, I actually couldn't bear playing on Live back in the day with out at least infravision due to it straining my eyes. In fact my wizard was a dark elf purely because I didn't want headaches from staring too hard at the screen :)

I might have teared up a bit when I learned "night blindness" wasn't the same. I do miss it... even if I tend to play with ultravision.

Gamma setting has nothing to do with the client's built-in correction for nighttime. If you log on in an outdoor zone at night, you should notice that it takes some seconds before the client turns on the lights, so to speak. Given that the map and compass could be disabled, perhaps it's possible to forcibly disable this as well.

This automatic correction doesn't work inside dark dungeons such as Befallen, which are appropriately dark without a light source.

I'd love to see night blindness return at some point, right now infravision and ultravision are just not that useful, in 1999 they were amazing, they were the reason dark elves have mediocre stats and are hated everywhere, in 1999 it was a tradeoff, not it's mostly just thematic which you pick.

In 1999/2000 on live, my human bard actually kept a bunch of Split Paw Eyes in the bank for CRs.
