Do you think it will ever happen? If so do you think it will be worthy to bare the EQ name?

...EQ 2.5?
Can't say I'm a fan of EQ2. EQ1 had it right maybe the first five years. EQ2 continued what they did wrong in EQ1. So I would think EQ3 would be the things they did wrong in EQ2. Wish I could say better.

Id love to see EQ1 with redone graphics and a few new zones, keep it exactly the same.

I wouldn't mind a console game as long as it has an ok interface. What if EQ3 became the only game that allowed 360/wii/ps3 users to play with eachother? Although, keyboards are pretty essential.

Although, keyboards are pretty essential. Not enough storage space on most consoles. Could maybe fit on some, +expansions to come, but not much room for anything else. CCP was going to bridge between console and PC in a single game, but gave it up for lint. Think they are just going to do the console version that impacts the PC game version (EVE). But as for consoles, I'm a fan of consoles even less than for EQ2 ;) Too many limitations.
I wouldn't hold my breath on cross-console game though, not from SOE. Look at what they did with the EQ Mac version. Just saying from a historical perspective :)

Im not sure what you want storage space for. You usually run console games from discs and put savegames and such data on the console itself. The real limitation is probably that the consolemakers want to sell consoles thus don't want the games to be playable over multiple platforms.

But mmo's are always getting patched, updated and expanded. It's the same thing Blizzard said about porting their mess onto console. xbox has a large hard drive, but at an extra expense.

some day secrets will present us EQ3! the best of EQ2 and EQ1 combined! <3 <3
Im never going to touch a SOE game again with a ten foot pole, unless the feedback is good for it months afterwards.

They already did this with EQ1. Most of the classic outdoor zones do not exist on live the way we know them. They have completely been redesigned from the ground up. (Sadly the gameplay will never be like classic.)

Everquest online Adventures has been around for forever (celebrating it's 7 year anniversary this year I think). Although some people still play it it was considered to be a bit of a flop. Don't think Sony will invest in creating a new one based on this alone.

I'd like to see an MMO set in the Norrath mythos that allows the players to shape the way each server progresses. Custom buildings, quests/events with poignant and branching outcomes, etc.
If EQ Next ever does happen, it will be vastly different from EQ1/2 if they have half a brain. They don't want to be their own direct competition.
I have always loved the stories built behind the first few expansions of EQ. After PoP the stories got too spread from the original mythos for me. DoN was kinda neat I suppose, as it filled in a few empty spaces on the pre-existing maps. But still.
Give it a solid story, let the players get involved in the story and make it dynamic. If you want to see a dynamic system done right, take a look at the way Guild Wars 2 is shaping its PvE. It is so full of win.
No more hailing a static NPC for a quest that 1000 other people get. There's a dragon attacking a village? You find out by seeing the smoke and fire in the distance and going to help. Anyone that helps out is rewarded (similar to Public Quests in a few games) but the outcome of these event/quests has a lasting effect.
Evil things are pillaging a city, if the players fail to beat them back, the bad guys start building it up as a forward base. You can intercept supply trains and reinforcements, or attack it head-on.
That's the sort of refreshing change we need in MMOs. Not a step-by-step list of permanent quests to complete that will still be there 5 years from now.

ya the public quest deal in Warhammer was pretty cool, would like to see that expanded on in more games.

Yeah, overall I liked Warhammer but that was one of the few things I felt distinguished it from everything else.

OOh how about this idea?
Every newer MMO has dumb quests where you have to collect X of an item for whatever reason and you get some combination of coin, exp and faction for it.
What if these quests were created by players?
Here's what I mean:
Working on a tradeskill but don't feel like collecting bear pelts all afternoon?
Post a want add at the local tavern that other players can see. Have an NPC at the tavern that handles these transactions. The person posting the request pays a small fee and offers a reward of some kind (their choice maybe?).
The person completing the mission receives exp and the item and/or gold that was offered by the poster.
Quests would change every day and no two people would ever have the same exact quest. (Unless the request was reposted.)
How's that for dynamic!

Gotta say no, after seeing the little snippets about EQ Next in the Evercracked doc, read the blurbs about it in the back of the 10th anniversary book and read Brads post... and considering the Vanguard taint...
HIGHLY unlikely he's involved.

For rizzle? Never played it but it's cool that somebody actually implemented that.
I should have done game design and conceptualization...

I wouldn't say most.
It's only Nektulous, Freeport, Steamfont, Misty Thicket, Commonlands, Lavastorm as far as I remember.

They have done graphical revamps of Freeport, North Ro, Oasis, South Ro, West and East Commonlands, Nektulos Forest, Misty Thicket, Toxxulia, Kerra Isle, Ocean of Tears, Lavastorm, Steamfont, Highpass, Arena, and Bazaar
They have also done non graphical revamps to about a dozen other zones. They also plan to continue to revamp many more zones with each expansion.
Right now its miserable. I went back for the ten year anniversary and of coarse I wanted to explore the old world zones the most. And Omfg, it felt like every time time you zoned the graphics completely change. It was so stupid and it destroyed immersion I dont know wtf they were thinking.
I think anyone would be interested in an everquest 3. I could definitely see them trying a console thing like Star Trek did. Especially if it isn't for a few years and consoles continue to improve.
It would be cool if they did a sort of prequel. Give people a help to build their favorite cities or meet some historical figures.

My mistake, you are correct....it has been 2-3 years since I last quit live.
The stupid graphical revamps they did were mostly for expansion release that zoned in off those areas....ex. Lavastorm for DoN...Highpass for TSS....Nektulous for DoD etc.
The new bazaar was done to make it less laggy...and it works, sucks tho as the old trader bays were way better than the design they have now.
It would be cool if they did a sort of prequel. Give people a help to build their favorite cities or meet some historical figures.
They sort of did this with the 2nd most recent expansion, SoD....they had players travel back through rifts in time to important events, such as The Battle in Field of Bone, Oceangreen Village (Qeynos b4 it was Qeynos) etc.

Im never going to touch a SOE game again with a ten foot pole, unless the feedback is good for it months afterwards. Pretty much same. 'SOE: we destroy worlds'.
I really don't like much on the market now. Most of them don't seem to be making actual "mmorpg" progress, but only transforming into regular CRPG's solo/multi-player. How boring. I don't expect SOE to do anything different, anything more like mmorpg roots, just more "I can win!" game play like most everyone else.

Here's your next big thing - http://www.38studios.com/home/list
I like that they're creating a single player RPG to introduce you to the world and lore prior to the release of their flagship MMO. I've always wished Sony had made a quality RPG that took you through the various events that shaped norrath or at least a certain time during the history.

I'm hoping there will be more info at the Fan Faire in August. Everquest Next is mentioned in the Evercraked (http://media.video.ign.com/articles/104/1044480/vids_1.html) episode 5 video (towards the end). Its at the 10:19 mark if you want to get straight to the skinny.

Yeah that'd be neat, you could even span multiple timelines up to a re-boot of the original then Kunark and Velious and skip the cats-in-space debacle.
From there onward you could reinvest in the original lore and make the Everquest that should have been.

Give all the newbie dungeons a second difficulty or subzone (kind of like they did with Deepest Guk, SolC, etc).
So Crushbone, Befallen, Runnyeye, etc would get some late game replay value.
It would be fun to be able to find those mobs again in the high 40's.
