Are you one of those people that think Obama and MSNBC spend a lot of time discussing progressive economic ideas?

Where are the big networks and organizations that pitch leftwing economic ideas? Why is every article about Cortez referring to her ideas as "platitudes" and "unrealistic"?

Meanwhile military spending is never discussed outside a few youtube channels and academic panels.

Yea except for I can think we need to cut taxes a bit more -- but transgender bathrooms are a must -- and now I'm a "far left liberal" according to whatever corporate funded think tank's chart you want to link.

59% of respondents supported a Medicare-for-all healthcare system in which all Americans would get coverage through a government program like Medicare or Medicaid

About 75% of the public would favor a program framed as a public option for anyone who wants it.

Holy shit -- 59% of America is radical left...75% is left of center

ahh damn I guess their Overton window is fucked up. Either that or the media's is...hmmm....

JurisDictum 07-09-2018 02:25 PM

Because pointing out what the tax cut did is really leftwing...

Maybe -- just maybe -- they are defending the center status quo Obama tax rate?

It's so obvious those articles are about trashing Trump and not advocating for leftwing economics. Two different things.

mickmoranis 07-09-2018 02:26 PM

Juris.

I hate to break it to you but Democrats dont talk about their economic plans, because THEY HAVE NONE.

Its like asking "whats the exist strategy for iraq and the middle east"

There is none ya dummy!

JurisDictum 07-09-2018 02:28 PM

Where are all those articles calling for single payer and pointing out that Obamacare (named after our "leftwing" president) doesn't work?

Right, that's the whole point of the shift. To change public opinion. The Overton Window refers to social perception of politics and ideologies...I feel like a broken record.

That does not mean the ideas and solutions suddenly change ideologies as soon as more people support them. 99% of everyone could support seizing the means of production. We would still be commie bastards.

They would be "commies" because that's radical left on a world scale. If the overton window moved so far left that "seizing means of production" was considered sensible in debate -- then you would be correct that the overton window has gone far left.

There is the window.

There is what is considered acceptable within the window..

The window moves left or right depending on the country and times etc..

The window is pretty far right on economic issues atm in America.

Why is this debatable in your mind?
