Dickbreath is a term of endearment, obviously.

This server is exactly as it should be and a complete reflection of those that run it.

I'd say it's about normal for parts of the 'net frequented by a primarily under-30 crowd. Quite a lot of stuff posted in this forum seems to originate elsewhere. I'm not a huge fan of some aspects of the P99 community, either (indeed I consider the underbelly of the community possibly the worst part of the server), but it's still no worse than average.

Maybe it's a generational disconnect. When I was a kid there was no internet, no cell phones, and no instant communication. I find it odd to ponder other folks on this board saying they were playing EQ when they were 12 or 13 years old. I was out with friends or chasing girls at that age. A lot of what passes as ordinary behavior for that "tech generation" annoys me--ranging from excessively crude language to broken cellphone-text-derived english--but all the same, I recognize that more as my problem rather than theirs. Given a chance most of the people on here who initially seem annoying are in fact perfectly decent folks. As I said before, stay out of the raid scene and it's a decent enough environment, certainly no worse than what you'll find in most other games nowdays.

Worst I've actually had happen to me on P99 was some guy who spammed a bunch of silly messages involving my name (and a few other players), and that was more funny than anything else.

A legend returns.

Danth writes like he's a senior citizen who played Atari games at 20 and built his own computer company from scratch.

I think this server is a study of the long term effects of Everquest (online gaming) on adolescents.

You just thought you were just playing Everquest. You're really the test subjects of someone's thesis.

This server really isn't as bad as it's portrayed, coming from a fellow EQCer. Stick to certain zones and you'll not want for a group. You can do rarer zones though by forming your own group. EQC is dead, unless HK can attract more developers and retain them unlike YL.

Wasn't 20, but I did play Atari games. Pong before it, too. I'm not all that much older than the norm here, but I'm a bit conservative by temperament and the different social norms relative to what's normal for me sometimes makes me feel like an outsider looking in. Point being for Beledric is that if I can acclimate to it here (and indeed, get along fine with most of you folks in-game), he surely can.

I'm still awaiting the next chapter in the saga of The Erudite with Gold Teeth and Red Shoes.

I don't think it's fair to characterize P99 by what gets posted here in the rants and flames forum. I mean, this forum is solely purposed toward cultivating cruelty and deriving humor from it. Sometimes this humor is called: lulz.

P99 in-game is a very different beast. It is mostly about tolerating long stretches of angst and boredom and learning what kind of sock has the greatest capacity for holding poop.
