We're back to ford?
So what's everyone feelings on the FDA/USDA?
I think we shouldn't regulate the drugs except for manufacturing safety or quality. They don't even need to be safe to take, just not full of toxic poisons from the manufacturing process. Everything should be legal. If people wan't mercury tablets laced with opium, they should have mercury tablets laced with opium, they should just be clearly labeled as such and not contain more than the background amount of ecoli.
I also don't think we should patent drugs anymore. Manufacturers shouldn't win patents and lotteries to make X amount of drugs, they should win because they can make and distribute drugs the most efficiently, effectively, and safely, for everyone + the environment.
If you wan't to drive innovation give grants to the scientists directly to release their discoveries to the public for free once they've done their research, make it worth their while with public funding if you want, but probably the government shouldn't even be doing or regulating that, maybe just charities and NPOs. Make it extragovern-mental.
