what server did you play? i never encountered twink bashing on prexus.

well depends the era of classic we are talking about.

In very vanilla EQ, pre-Kunark, it was most certainly something you were not proud of.

Id imagine as expansions started to flow in, people stopped caring as more and more alts came about.

( to answer your question: Bristlebane )

Well this server is more like a 'hobby' for us old timers, opposed to it being a new never before seen amazing alternate fantasy reality. So people might have multiple characters, and that means they're playing them for fun, and gearing up is fun! I like rawhide armor as much as the next guy, but if I have a full set of Mithral I would probably want that on my next character, cus after all, that's why I'm making a second character, cus I like that class at 50! So why not gear em up to that level if I can.

That said, I see some geared up toons sometimes in BB or CB and it looks a tad bit obnoxious, so going full bright blue mystic armor at level4, isn't exactly for me :)

Guys I have a question, I notice there is a /r/project1999 on reddit... How many crossover users from there to here are there?

Uh. I moderate that. So at least some of us.

Erati is right, twinks were looked down upon back in the day when I played. I stopped shortly after Vellious and could imagine future expansions twinks being less and less un-cool.

It was looked down upon cus most people were playing their characters for the first time, a twink seemed like a spoiled jerk, throwing it in their cloth wearing groupmates faces that they were from the rich part of town :)

It was mostly jealousy ;)

Never experienced any kind of bashing on Nameless, either. Everybody I ran into were either twinks or twinking, even by late 1999.

I didn't remember twinks negatively -- maybe enviously.

same, or like "wow give me the digs on how you got that, even if on your main" and then ride the easy xp train in our group and be sad when they leave and we all die bc we thought we were cool, whoops oh well.

On the other hand, in 99-00 i wouldnt go as far to say everyone i ran into were twinking, i found the stark opposite.

lecompte 04-29-2014 03:39 PM

You arent' addicted enough if you have time to do something else besides grind that EXP. Are you at work? Better call in sick tomorrow like a responsible EQer

this ^^^^

showing up in Crushbone in full bronze when most players only 'heard rumors where bronze even dropped' made the rest of the zone despise you greatly.

I vividly remember people in /groupchat getting upset for referring to them as 'twinked'
