I've let my pet engage a mob while I sit at 2/3 max cast range (way back for less Proximity aggro) and let the pet and mob duke it out untill the mob is at UNDER 70% hp. Engulfing Darkness, I'm ok. It ticks for 17. *Anything* else I cast will almost certainly bring that mob to me. I've even tried the L1 5hp LT. Forget about an actual 2nd DoT like Heat Blood
Hell, if my pet goes on a whiff string and Darkness ticks twice without him hitting I end up wearing the mob half the time.

This sounds right (if you're talking about peeling aggro with ED already on the mob) as those spells generate a good amount of hate. When Disease Cloud aggro got nerfed (I believe this was a game-wide reduction of Disease spell aggro because too many shammies were getting squished) ED and other Darknesses became popular go-to aggro spells for SKs, even after SoE finally fulfilled the promise of SK-only damageless aggro spells. Hell, if multiples make it to camp on a hairy pull and there's no mez it's not uncommon to see SKs alternating between DC and ED to get aggro under control rather than wait for DC to come off cooldown.

I suspect this issue to be linked with range of aggro, and pets not being added in the check.

I don't feel bad for mages having to actually try a little when endlessly killing mobs. :p

I would just like to add that when I see fire pets tanking 3 seafuries at once and earth pets killing ice giants while barely getting scratched, I think to myself: "If my main was a mage I would probably just keep quiet and enjoy what I have".

Man, be so much BS if that's true.

I have seen all of the above issues with pet aggro. Ive seen a druid, tank an entire fight, because of a regen landing on a pull. With two mage pets beating and taunting the mob the entire fight.

If your main was a mage, you wouldn't think like that at all.

I have to rely entirely on pet surviving the whole fight by dishing out heals because if I nuke just once the mob is all over my ass. It dont stop there though, if I heal the pet I get jumped by the adds even after pet has equally hit each mob. I am in no way saying I can't enjoy my class but I would like to be able to nuke something once in awhile heh

Nuke at the end of the fight maybe? That always seems to work for me.
