99% certain this whole post is just an attempt to justify European colonialism. Hey white people did some horrible, truly atrocious things to their fellow man, but then because they had a technological advantage over those "savages", and because hundreds of years later they stop explicitly colonizing them and let them have some technology (whatever their poor colonized asses could afford), it's all good!

Yea no one at college argues that. You can find those that seem to think our anti-colonial attitude is actually holding other less-developed countries back. These people view colonialism as a necessary evil to avoid the greater destruction that happens when a society must develop without outside assistance.

In other words, neo-colonialism worse than colonialism because at least with the latter we have to take some responsibility for how things are going. We want to improve the infrastructure and long-term stability of colonies....we can give a shit about trade partners. We mostly want raw resources from these countries.
