Paladins are popular alts bc of Ghoulbanes cheapness n Guise

If you want a rare class / race combo should do something like Wood Elf or Gnome warrior

you already have a hybrid

So, my advice, if you want to play an unpopular character, is to play the biggest xp penalty character there is - bonus points if they do no damage like a paladin vs non-undead.

Maybe I'll make a guild where popular classes aren't welcome. Groups of 4 hybrids, Wizard and a Cleric will be common place. Let's see how slowly we can make the exp bar move.

Wizards aren't as bad atm in many exp groups as they will be eventually (and are on blue) due to the number of players vs the number of mobs. When I was grouping with my twinked rogue (phinny spear, PSD, str gear, etc) in unrest the other day, I was being vastly outperformed by the wizard in the group. Fights were fast enough with a warrior, mage, rogue, wizard DPSing that I'd almost never get a 3rd backstab in. I'd usually melee for like... 100-150 damage without lucky max BSs but the wiz or mage can do that much damage every 3 seconds then med while the puller tries to find another mob up.

Rogue is a fairly unpopular class. I think the least played on the server.

Gets a class exp bonus, welcome in groups, can gear out fairly well for not too high a cost (gloomwater harpoon pretty inexpensive). Hide/sneak can be fun.

But if you’re at lvl 9 and already considering an alt, you may just want to reroll your main altogether

rogue definitely not less popular than ranger/pal cant speak on wiz

Do we have updated numbers on class counts these days?

As for OP, I'd roll a druid to compliment your SK.

Reasoning:
* Great outdoors – SK is great indoors due to both invis types and FD
* Great mobility – Ports and SoW. No need to list a second pair of JBoots
* No XP penalty
* Can farm for your SK
* Get to play as a good class / race
* Caster QoL – Gate, etc.

If you absolutely have to be rare, I'd do a good race Wizard for most of the same reasons, except being a little less effective at farming outdoors, having a slight XP penalty and having to camp JBoots.

Rogue is pretty rare but usually not as rare as wiz, pal, rng.

Just know if you go ranger, you will never be able to go back to not having track. It has ruined me.

Oh... I figured Ogre SK is about as good of a group tank as you can possibly get while still being able to solo reasonably. Maybe I was wrong.

Let me clear up a few things about this whole myth morons push about SK's being able to "solo reasonably", a few facts from somebody who loves the class and played one since launch (live+99)

- your DPS, which is the worst out all the fighting classes except Paladin, will reach a tipping point and won't be able to exceed the mob's DPS (around lvl 35) vs decent EXPERIENCE giving mobs and your taps will not be able to keep up. That's with the BIS group drop weapons and well geared. Fear kiting is sorta doable, but again your not going to have the mana pool to actually support that type of xp grind for any length of time that would be considered "soloing".

Come Kunark when mobs get a huge DPS boost and the casters really get a fucking boost, you can forget it.

So can you technically kill mobs with no help post lvl 35? Sure. To the point it could be called "soloing" for XP on green like the other solo classes? No. Still the best group- duo tank and a ton of fun to play.
