Hey jval -

Your best bet for keeping this accessible is to maintain it on the wiki. I have created the page for you and linked it in the guides section.
Jval2529's Guide for People Coming from Modern MMOs

Also, you should probably review the information in the other guides found here just to be sure you aren't giving conflicting information or re-posting info that's already been added to the wiki. You'll see the link to your guide at the bottom of the list under the hunting/leveling guide section.

Good luck!

Thank you very much, I will be sure to add it. :) I know some of the information is scattered across the wiki but it's much more vauge, I want to make this as extensive and detailed as possible.

Wow, I have actually never paid attention to this before. Any idea how much of a faction hit we are talking about?

I have never heard this and played EQ from 1999 til middle of GoD expansion. I'm wondering where the negative faction hits come from, being you only get positive faction when you turn the note in and thats the end of the "quest".

I'm with the others on this one. I have never had issues with my characters after handing in the note (and I always hand it in, just for the sake of feeling complete).. I have played a LOT

Can you please elaborate?

I think that most people who play this server played eq before, but this is a good idea for people who want to try eq for the first time. I suspect that there are some old guides floating around that might be good to link here if anyone has one.

Im not sure actually, someone told me this and I figured it would be a good idea to tell people who don't know what's going on. I'll be sure to do my research on it and come back with a more details. Im a fairly new player I expect people here to be telling the truth I don't see how lying helps anyone so I assumed it was true, then again this IS still the internet.

I don't know if he was lying, but he might have been repeating misinformation. Maybe try creating a couple chars and see what faction hits you take for turning in the note? Freeport paladin, Dark Elf SK/Necro (The Dead), and probably good/evil erudites I could see having faction hits for turning in the note.

Of course, the factions that would be negatively impacted would probably already hate you, and I if you did ever want to grind up an opposing faction I think turning in your newb note would be the least of your problems.

FWIW I don't remember the last time I turned in a note. I usually just attack the first guard/priest of discord I see upon character creation for a quick ride to the newb yard.

LOL that's a good idea, Im kinda sick of getting lost in freeport. I think that if your class is evil and your starting city is good it could effect your faction, I'll see as soon as I get home.

7)Making Money
There are several ways to make money, one of the best ways is to sell bonechips (necromancers of all levels need them) A single stack will earn you 3 plat, which is a lot for a low level character. Other then that just vendor all stuff you can't use.

I guess this depends on where you are, but bone chips usually sell for about 10p for a stack of 20 around East Commons.

Heh...Vendar beat me to this as I was typing ).

Haha on me i just sold 30 bone chips for 8 gold
They were taking up slots in my limited bag space rofl and someone asked in ooc to buy bone chips. He just threw coin in the trade window; we never discussed it and i had no idea what the going rate for bone chips were anyway.
I figured i was getting ripped but honestly, i was about to sell them to a vendor bc i don't know how to sell to players in this game lolz I come from EQ2 where you just chuck it on the broker and come back a few days later.

So ok i shoulda read up on this stuff first cuz i could use the coinage hehe
Thanks for posting all this info. All us noobs are so lost...:o

1.5) A Quick note on gear
There are no level restrictions restrictions on gear, if you find it wear it if you find an upgrade wear that. Although there ARE class restrictions, the only thing close to a level ristriction are magic weapons that proc when they hit, these will not proc until that specific weapon skill is high enough

Actually this is "until your lvl is high enough" for instance on a Gnoll Hide Lariat the stun proc won't work untill lvl 25. It will still proc, but you get a message that says "you are not a high enough lvl to control this item" or some such.

Never sell bonechips for less then 10p a stack. Tons of people buy them. Even sold them for 12 a stack in FOB. heh
