The thing people might not realize is that the Chardok revamp was released in October 2001 ... just two months before Luclin (December 2001)! The ring, the SWC, and the revamped Chardok loot are all basically Luclin-era, on a server dedicated to Classic through Velious.

They existed for only two months on live (before everyone went to Luclin), but here they're high-end loot that's available forever: of course it feels unclassic! You would almost never see someone wearing a Sarnak Battle Shield on live, or see even two people interested in doing the Chardok quest at once, but here we have dozens rolling for Shady/Angry and the SBS is standard gear for several classes.

All that being said, I think the staff made the right call, because once the server hits this point in the timeline it needs more stuff to do. Revamped Chardok is a more interesting to kill in, folks have another reason to do Droga besides the essence earring, Shady/Angry are server events ... and none of the loot is so powerful that it really feels out of line.
