I've played blue for a long time and red from server launch, but currently only use my red char as downtime from blue. The answer to this will always come down to personal preference and personality.

Overall blue has a good classic experience, but be prepared to run into quite a few divas and bickering at higher level camps. I've never had trouble getting a group, and I play in an Asian time zone. The raid scene today is drastically better and much more accessible than it used to be. At 60, blue can be boring to a lot of people.

Red on the other hand, definitely has that "fresh EQ" feel to it because of the low population and relative difficulty of acquiring plat/items. On red, be prepared for divas and toxic people at all levels of the game. I ended up giving away my first (level 50 geared) character on red the day someone spammed Game of Thrones spoilers in OOC. I was just sick of the community. You can fight for camps on red. The problem with this is that EQ pvp is anything but balanced, and usually consists of waiting until someone is fighting a mob and then ganking them.

So what do I think is better? Blue. It all depends on you though. I could just as easily recommend red to a few friends of mine, and in fact probably would were they to ever start playing again.

Now, Dark Age of Camelot would be a different story. PVP is the only correct answer. Someone please make an Uthgaard PVP server.

The solo pvp balance, 1v1, sucks, yes... but in that sense class balance sucks throughout the game. PVP much like ALL of EQ was meant to be experienced SOCIALLY.... as if we were playing some sort of Massive... Multiplayer... Game... Online... while Role Playing as elf sims with pixels...

seriously... this is the dumbest argument against PVP that I ever see. No shit PVP is imbalanced... did you go solo 1-60 on your cleric or warrior or rogue on blue server like this is WoW? Shit no, this is everquest... you played a solo class or sucked it up and made friends and struggled with mismatched malformed groups made of aborted non-solo people begging for LFG in /ooc, AND YOU LIKED IT!

All of that said... in respons eto the OP.... Play Red. You'll make friends, group, grind and level, and progress in an awesome fun way as intended. Or play Blue and hope for handouts, play some ECQuest buying and selling low and high like a stock broker until you have the gear you want at lvl 20, and have nothing to do at all but mindlessly grind solo/duo til you get to overcamped lvl 45+ end game content that you cannot ever touch....

seems an obvious choice to me *shrug*

And it isn't because of the pvp or red being more fun or better, honestly it's because it is a newer server with a lower population and hasn't been poopsocked into oblivion. The XP bonus is also really fun and while "not classic" provides a very classic feel for me when you get into a good group and grind together in an efficient manner.

Or just play both and see what you like... if you come to red PM me on Ninjaturtle and I will make a newb to roll with you duo or something!

Well the play Red or play Blue thing I think boils down to how good you are at EQ. I would never suggest a total newb go play on Red. I would bet they would quit EQ and NEVER come back, even though it is a lot better now than it was say 4 months ago.

Dying time after time to Mobs and being Ganked PvP wise would get old as hell quick. And we all remember when we were new to the game we died to about every other mob, clicked on Venders attack wise, Guild Leaders, the list goes on. :p

This post should also give you a good idea what to expect the majority of the time on red. Lol.

I call COMPLETE B.S. on this....

Evidence: number of people who sit around begging for buffs and gear... an hour of begging one day plus an hour of flipping items once ever -5 days of play time = more gear upgrades more rapidly than you could likely get even playing 50+... it's just absurd.

I was a master at trading back on live but the amount of farming and how far gone the economy is at this point from how long its all been on farm status and how top heavy the server is goes beyond anything imaginable on live.

you are an idiot. you clearly didn't read my post, which was a reponse to you saying we should "ECQuest" to catch up. some of us dont care to sit around begging or flipping or doing anything in the ec tunnel. we want to go out and kill stuff with our limited time.

Buying and selling items is part of the game. Period. This is not WoW. You will not level 1-lvl cap without ever needing to purchase or trade and end up with sufficient gear to do whatever you want, much less solo. This game will force social aspects and in game economy down your throat like you are a cheap pornstar, and you will either take it, or go wait tables and tell everyone you're working on your acting career.

If you try to kill in your "limited time" you'll end up lvl 10 in rags with rusty weapons in a week of paying 2-3 hours a night, unless you gnoll fang your way to 20 or so and hit a wall, as stated. Otherwise you invest a few of those precious playable hours getting appreciable gear and can kick ass grinding up to 40+ game play, or even just putzing around low level being able to handle your own and enjoy the game slowly still. Without an inventory of 8slot+ bags and 150str+ and massive loot whoring you will not even afford spells as a caster or a single item superior to fine steel until lvl 30ish gameplay where lucrative stackable items start dropping.

Enjoy your lvl 10 naked toon poking at green cons with a stick. At least on red server you'd be a level 30 naked toon poking at stuff with your stick in the same limited time... how you rationalize limited time = don't play red with big xp bonus, but instead play blue and do not take advantage of ECquesting = beyond me..
