For the love of god do not get a Bassett Hound. They are almost all horribly smelly (even by dog standards due to glandular issues with the breed) and insanely hard to train. Once they are outside thier brain turns off and thier nose takes over. If you're looking for a pet to enjoy outside then the Bloodhound will be your best bet from the list you posted.

yes i think im gonna go with a bloodhound, thank you guys

I just got a Beagle pup and she has been good so far. Like all puppies, they will get into trouble and chew etc. I crate train her and she has been doing well evacuating outside, although she goes inside sometimes because I am not paying attention.

The males will be crazy and howl etc, females are more docile. Once outside the nose goes to work. I have a fenced in yard and let her run while under mime or the wife's supervision. She gets along well with our 3 1/2 year old daughter too. When I take her out to do her business I let her go and bring her inside immediately. If she just hangs around the yard and dinks around, I bring her inside.

She is used to her crate and she will immediately go in when I pull out a milkbone.

As with any puppy, they will be nuts the first few months.

Also on adopting, I filled out 5 applications and nobody got back to me. Plus they want $400 just to adopt. I got mine from a breeder for $500 with papers. I also do not feel comfortable having people come to my house and want to know where I work and my bosses name, AND want references.

Problem is they never leave that stage. They have all the worst puppy traits for life.

Friend had a bull mastiff. I don't know much about dogs but this thing was the most personable and intelligent little guy. He'd play along with jokes and he took beatings of a life time from his owner without ever batting an eyelash.

If I ever get a dog, there's no question what breed it will be

I don't particularly like beagles, but if you like hunting birds they make incredible bird-dogs

I have a border collie and I hate this fucker. He is smart enough to get out of the backyard constantly. The worst trait of my wife when we got married was this collie.....but hes kinda cool sometimes...and thats how they getcha.

And that great personable dog will die in 7 years. Same with the Danes. I would love to have a mastiff but I can't deal with a best friend dying every 7 years. Big dogs lifespans are just too short. It's rough enough with our ferrets.
