To assume you know everything. Or perhaps blindly follow some literal guide handed to you buy others? These things are evil. Many people fit into this category. They do not have inquisitive minds and stop learning or caring to learn or caring at all.
The conscience is not innate. It is earned and continually nurtured. And it is that which is the path to spiritual ascension.
I surely hope you don't think you are the alpha and omega. And that all your decisions are innately correct and well informed.
To simplify it. You can be told that bears and lions are dangerous and must be hunted. Or you can learn about them and find out that a balance must be maintained. Further you can learn the different balances to be maintained of these species and humans and make decisions based on value. And that these decisions can be constantly adjusted. Most people just experience fear and the desire to be safe at all costs in these situations. They lack understanding.
They live completely within fear, without conscience, for their actions. Without knowledge or the ability to see how they shape the universe in which they inhabit. This happens with much more complex issues which people tend to neglect and oversimplify as well - politics, religion, war, money, law.
Further people tend to be unaware of which feelings they base their actions on if they were to act on 'feeling' alone. Most people have suppressed all but fear, anger, and hatred. They are empty. Animals are different in this regard as they act with more conscience than some people. Even if they do not have the knowledge. Their feelings are at least genuine and grounded in the moment. People don't behave this way at all. |
