In the 70's there was a real public fear about demons. My girlfriend grew up Catholic so it was especially spooky to her, whereas it didn't impact me nearly as much in terms of spookiness.

Now a days it's put to shame but in the early 70s, it's influence was powerful.

Whether you think it's a fairytale or real, it influenced cinema and horror

Yeah like everyone was so freaked about it, and as a kid who had to worry about freddy cutting out my veins and walking me off a cliff like a puppet I was so confused about the fear of that movie lol

But when i got older and was like, wait, you thought those movies were REAL!?! I was like lol that makes so much sense but hold up, mom, you thought the horror movie was REAL all this time!??!?

Then 30 years later here we are where we are and well...

Edit: and im not nocking it, its a fantastic movie, an actual horror FILM, and to this day I still think its officially the scariest movie ever made, because of all that history hehe

My IRL everquest friend was totally GOT by that movie hahahah He studied so much long ass backstory to the ghost story or whatever, and the kids, and man he thought it was so real and I was like "dude this is so fake nobody throws a map away"

hahaha man it felt so great when it all came out about it hahah man. What a good time that was.

Now we have that cancer found footage movie to deal with though, I'm literally watching one as I type this and I hate them, but as a horror fan you have to put up with them sometimes.
