People with ADHD, like myself, can hyperfocus on video games for 14 hour stretches for weeks on end. That’s a problem. If not ADHD, autism seems to have a similar effect and you know damn well Norrath is 50% aspies, minimum. Yeah, games can destroy people’s lives. It’s kind of a big deal.

I think the video game disorder is really just an expression of an addictive personality. If you read the description, it is really no different from any other addiction. If you have a personality like that and you don't get addicted to games, you'll likely get addicted to something else. It is difficult to balance. I heard one bright individual refer to it once as monomania. I thought that was a good descriptor. Right now for me, it's health and fitness.

On the trans issue. I think a key factor is whether or not it causes distress. If you are able to happily navigate life with your disposition, then maybe it isn't an illness. It is certainly abnormal, but if it isn't hampering you, then I don't see it is much of a disease. I think that is why gender dysphoria is classified as a disorder, while transgenderism is not. And yeah, it is possible to live as transgender with little to no dysphoria.

There needs to be a stronger emphasis on integrating the divergent elements of one's nature than pushing to embrace one and abandon the other. Both the right and the left have it wrong in that regard. Environment, perception and plasticity all play critical roles though in arriving at a happy, healthy point of balance.

I agree that it's possible to live as transgender with little to no dysphoria but I also think it should be at least studied where we have an honest look at it because I have a feeling transitioning without side effects is probably the exception rather than the rule.

Right now it's taboo and "hateful" to study the effects and mental stability of people who are transitioning. It's just swept under the rug and not dealt with because it's not politically correct.

This mindset of "Everything is fine because the mob forces us to think so" is dangerous.
