So... I have this theory that Naggy might be duo-able by a mage epic pet with a serious set of MR gear and a BP cleric. Totally untested, thought it would be fun to try it on ragefire some time to see.
Mage would junk buff pet with bracer, making sure bracer landed above pet's DS self buff. Mage just chains bracer on pet to protect Haste/MR/FR/HP buffs. Cleric chains heals. Pet gear: (MR) Primary/Secondary/Range: 3x Runed Bone Fork (30) Arms: HBB (7) Back: Spectral Shroud (5) Chest: Sarnak Tabard (10) Ears: 2x EoE (20) Face: One of the cheapo 5MR masks from old world (5) Feet: Kylong boots (5) Fingers: 2x 13 MR rings (26) Hands: I dunno? Head: Tranix crown (rich) or SSB (poor like me) (10-20) Legs: Darkforge (3) Neck: Wolf Eye Platinum (9) Shoulder: Imbued granite spauldors (rich) Bloodstained mantle (poor like me) (10) Belt: Loam sash (5) Wrists: 2x Wolf eye gold bracelet. (14) Max MR from gear above is 169. Cleric MR buff is an extra 40 for a total of 209 MR above base for the pet. Pet is level 49. People have told me that the epic pet has good resists and doesn't stay feared all the time, but it seems to me my Fluffy spends an awful lot of time feared even when fighting Naggy and Fay, but I've never decked him out in MR gear nor worked particularly hard to protect his MR buff from dispels. Has anybody ever tried boosting the epic pet's MR with noticeable success? With the earrings and buffs only from the 52 cleric the pet would have 4925 max hp. If 60 cleric and shaman were present to buff the pet, it would have 5540 max hp. A 52 epic mage and 52 BP cleric certainly could get all the giants down given enough time. I'm not sure if it's better to leave the pet with his own 50 pt DS or buff him with mage 25 pt DS for the extra 25 FR. I'd think pet DS is better, let naggy run his HP down. |
Possibly, I still think Fear would be an issue though. There's a big level difference between the pet and Nagafen. But one thing you'll learn with most of the crazy kills here is that they are mostly luck. Skill is more just preparing to minimize risk to the fullest extent you can. In this case, you are rolling the dice on every fear.
To be honest, I don't fully understand how pet 'equipping' works, but that's a topic for another time! |

Yeah, whether or not you can get the pet to reliably resist fear is the whole question. That's what I'd like to test if I get the chance.

I don't think Mage/Cleric duo even with Epic pet + MR gear could do Naggy or Vox.
Every time the pet is feared even if only for a split second, the Mage or Cleric will be summoned. It would probably take a lot of luck but worth a shot I suppose. |
It should be easily doable in Velious though! Also I don't think the cleric getting summoned once or twice is a total disaster. They can always use regular CH on the pet that round.

My big issue here is, nobody knows if pet with MR gear works. If pet is level 49 with 209 MR, we used to kill Naggy with lvl 50s and that wasn't bad MR at all. I also very strongly suspect that the epic pet has better base resists than a player character, perhaps significantly better. My epic pet's average fear duration from Naggy definitely seems less than most player characters in (what you hope is) full MR gear with GRM. Maybe I should go park my mage at Naggy and ask TMO to let me take a whack at it before their next kill? |
Quarken's monk soloed Nagafen in Velious.
I also have a 52 war twink from live (hurray for free to play) that can solo Nagafen. Don't underestimate the power of the stinging wort! |
