If they didn't want it to be kill-able all they had to do was flip a switch. They didn't think anyone would be able to, so it was given no loot, but the players were given the tools to kill it, and when enough of them worked together they did it.

We had voice chat in Wudan way before GoD. Pretty sure it was vent. No clue y Assar would make up alternate elf history.

voice chat was out, but most people did not have stable enough connections at the time because bandwidth outgoing/incoming lagged you like crazy unless you had a connection way better then any local stuff ie biz connection. I think what most people are referring to though, are the shitter/warmbodies who didnt read chat, or had no idea and just went a long with whatever and attacked whatever. most guilds had people who talked to eachother and set up chains, mod rods, tanks etc ahead of time.

We used class leaders in my guild. Raid leaders would dole out information to class leaders who would in turn relay that information at the proper time to those of the same class via tells and macros.

Leadership used guild chat and everyone use stuck to tells.

Never had any of the issues that we have in voice chat with having to mute nerds and then leaders using that time to try to flirt with the 2 or 3 girls in the guild.

Waiting hours because the pull team is terrible is bad enough without having to listen to the guild leader trying to chat up one of the clerics the whole time.
