Incorrect Wiki Dates and fighting depression

Hey guys, I have been a part of this community off and on over the years, so I already know what I am basically getting into by posting this, but usually the one or two decent people I hear from sometimes helps to ease the pain.

I unfortunately found out about P99 Green super late (April) and one of the things that pulled me in was the chance for me to loot a Guise of the Deceiver on my dream warrior.

I second guessed myself on if it would be worth it or not to join this late with the goal of looting a legacy item, but after reading the wiki for Green it specifically had May 2020 crossed out and June 2020 filled in for the Temple of Solusek Ro / Legacy item removal date.

I know many of you are going to say that these were just estimates and fair enough, but I used that post as the basis for starting on this game once again and now after dragging some friends and family along I really feel like a complete failure.

I am not trying to make this a sob story, but I know that at least one of the posts responding to this thread will most likely say "There is always next server." or Green 2.0, but unfortunately due to my health (I don't want to get into specifics and get trolled) There is a decent chance I may not be around when the next server comes out.

So basically, this post is not meant to cry, bitch and complain. I just really needed somewhere to vent. Because as sad as it may seem, having a maxed out warrior with a Guise was one of my bucket list dreams to make happen. Now that it is setting in that I most likely will not be able to accomplish that dream in the future, I have kind of fallen into a depression.

At this point, because my friend and sister are getting into the game, now I really feel guilty because I have lost almost all of my motivation to keep playing the game, at least for now. I am sure with time I will eventually get over it, but still I wanted to come here to talk about it because sometimes it makes me feel better.

So basically, I am trying to find things in the future (not super distant) that I can look forward to that might be around the same level of accomplishment as a Guise? Are there any fancy list items coming in Kunark that are comparable?

I really don't know how to feel about this. I am thankful that this free server is here for us to experience classic EQ on, but that date specifically being crossed out and getting, I am sure, a large number of people's hopes up that they still had a chance to loot a legacy item, just for that rug to be pulled out from under us really puts a bad taste in my mouth.

If I would of just found out about the server when most of you did, I would 100% have my goals accomplished. Sometimes in life though, you just get really unlucky I guess.

My poor sister who has been helping me along the way said "Fuck it, make two warriors!" It literally brought a tear to my eye the lengths she would go to see me happy.

So yeah, I am a sad boi. I need something to help numb the pain. Dabs and medication not doing the trick as usual.

I am gonna forget about this stupid mask and come back to loving the game again soon, right guys? I sure hope so.

I completely get where you're coming from. I was about to go for a manastone (back when it "only" required two days of not sleeping) on Teal, and decided "I can wait one more week" ... and then Teal surprise-merged, but the staff kept /list the same, making manastones into a special giveaway for players that aren't me (and aren't 99% of the server).

It sucks.

At the same time though, it's also important to take a step back. You missed out on a tiny, inconsequential virtual item (in the grand scheme of things). Your warrior can still get an item to shrink themselves, so all you're missing out on is looking like a dark elf, which I promise (I had a Guise on live) gets old really fast.

If you're depressed, I think that's coming from something else inside of you, something you should reflect on and make peace with ... It's not really about your missing out on the ability to look like a dark elf without rolling a dark elf.

There will be another (even better) Green 2.0 in two years.

Just concentrate on surviving Covid and you will get your chance :)

I wanted a guised ranger, I got to number 1, and passed out. Never got guise before it went away. Im deleting my ranger and making that name into an Iksar monk, and my new goal is to get my first epic ever, so I chose one of the easiest freaking epics, though it will still be nigh unattainable for someone like me. I can max out characters with ease and quickly, but i'm not good at getting into raids and groups ;D

To be honest, all of the legacy items suck. Read my guide to not giving a crap about legacy :D https://www.project1999.com/forums/s...d.php?t=354516

If you could tell me I would 100% be alive in 2 years, I wouldn't even care. That not being a guarantee is mainly the reason why it hurts as much as it does. That and the wiki containing inaccurate information. (I don't have Covid-19 btw)

@Loramin I always can expect a thoughtful and classy post from this forum user. I really appreciate the kind words my man.

@Cen Read it the day you posted it. It did help, but alas I still crumble beneath the sadness, haha.

Aren't guises a frequent reward from GM events? Not saying it's likely, but it's still possible for you to get one on your warrior.

C'mon Mcoy, don't give the man false hope: you and I both know they don't do GM events here ;)

(And when they do, they give out one-use illusion potions and such. Been playing here for over half a decade and I literally can't remember ever hearing about anyone winning a Guise ... and hell, if they did the forums would erupt in cries of "that guy RMTed the staff for it!")

It's lost, perhaps forever for OP ... but again I truly don't think it's worth being depressed over (or at least, not for long).

Yeah, if there is no confirmation about GM events gifting items like Guise, I really don't want to get my hopes up. I'd rather just organically get over it I guess. I for one would love if they had contests of the sort with prizes like no drop legacy items. I totally could understand tradeable items causing a fuss, but I don't see how something like a cosmetic no drop item could hurt if the amount of happiness it brought outweighed the people who will complain about literally anything.

In fact, I think Guise being the one non-obtainable cosmetic item that everyone wants would be the perfect reward for a GM event held a few times a year. Just the thought that "It's possible." would do a lot to help with the sadness attached to missing out on a bucket list dream while also not completely devaluing the item and the time others invested to get it.

Once again, if I would of known that the expected release date for Temple of Solusek Ro / Legacy item removal was going to be May and not June, I would of no lifed on my warrior to get there in time. I know they were not set in stone and were purely estimates, its just the fact that they specifically crossed out May 2020 that makes me feel just a little mislead.

Oh well, it is what it is, as they say!

Pretty sure someone got one last GM event in WC. It was a Ranger who got it IIRC. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, there was some bamboozling going on at that event :p

Edit: on Blue

Well, I certainly can't claim to have heard about every GM event (and what everyone "won" in them), so I can totally believe that ... although again, just knowing this forum's crowd, if someone did win a guise and posted about it, I'd expect that to "make the news" so to speak (if only from jealous people griping) ;)

But regardless:
  1. GM events are extremely rare here (understandable given that our GMs don't get paid to run them, like the Verant ones did)
  2. even if someone was lucky enough to be on at the rare time/place of such a mythical P99 GM event, there's no guarantee at all that a Guise will be given out in it
  3. even if one is, there will literally be hundreds of other players trying to get it

So I mean, there might be a one in a million chance of getting a Guise through a GM event, but practically speaking you had an extremely low chance of that happening on live, and then an even lower one here.
