Shaman Item I Never Knew I Needed: Shovel of Ponz
 

So this is probably old news to a lot of people, but since I just learned about it I wanted to share with any other Shaman out there who were similarly in the dark. A friend of mine helped me get a wonderful item the other day: behold the Shovel of Ponz.

Why is this item so great for Shaman? Well, in short it lets you have a higher level pet, because it lets you cast (from inventory) a spell which kills your pet and returns the mana you used to cast it. So, instead of having to play with a green-con dogdog you just shovel him and recast a (hopefully) higher level pet. If you get another green dogdog you can keep repeating this (as long as you have patience to wait for your pet spell timer to repop) until you finally get a decent level pet.

and if your pet is about to die anyway -- reclaim it and get some mana

Yeah its great if you summon a pet and then have to zone because of a train or something, you get that med time back instantly!

Yup. Use from inventory.

Necros do get the spell "reclaim energy" though. Same thing. Takes a gem slot but saves you from having to farm a shovel/stein/torch/broom and whatever other items are needed for the quest.
