Questions about Necro Undead Charming

My Necro is currently 55. I've been root-rotting 99% of what I've been killing since 49.

I'm looking to master undead charming, but I've maybe only tried it once or twice.

I've heard about reverse charming, conga line charming, etc.

I know the classic technique of rooting the mob your charmed pet is fighting and trying to keep them both even health, and then using your CoS to break charm at 5% HP.

I suppose my question(s) really is: What tools do Necros use to achieve all of this? What useful spells do you keep memmed? I imagine Screaming Terror, Lulls, IVU are some key ones? How do you manage to keep mobs equal health? Heal your pet with Shadowbond? What if your pet is overpowering the mob? Heal the mob? Lol

Thanks

I use the classic method you mentioned to keep it very easy. Here’s my spell set

1) expel undead
2) vampiric curse
3) hungry earth
4) beguile undead
5) call of bones / leach
6) rest the dead
7) feign death
8) gate

It’s really easy, especially with melee mobs

Give your undead pet a torch
Undead haste pet
have screaming terror and root ready
After your charm pet has killed for a bit and is low on life FD and let it walk back to its static spawn spot and heal up fast.
If not confident try this in Burning Woods first else if confident go to Chardok and try Castle entrance. (Undead Partisans are better than Conscripts)
Use darkness on mob and Bond/Vexing
Profit
Undead mobs too close to each other in Burning Woods or other places use Rest the Undead
For lots of fun if you have cash pick up the slow stick from The Bridge Keeper and give it to your charmed pet. (Retrieve slow stick from pet by making sure you are the one that kills it.)
For Maximum safety in Chardok get factioned.

the best thing you can do is keep every mob rooted at all times, it can all go to shit pretty quick if multiples get loose on you during a charm break. Keep enemy rooted, stay pretty far back so you can ST on a break, and you will get the hang of things pretty quickly. Once you know how to do, you can start working on efficiency and more advanced tactics to kill faster

Deflux
Bond
Root (Guk use Root / HS use PE)
Screaming Terror
Harm Shield
(Swap Slot)
Charm
FD

Use swap slot for lulls and splurts to even up fights, rot down mobs ect.

You really need a CoS. It provides much better control and other benefits.

Use ST to recharm if it breaks and to interrupt casters

Keep Manaskin up at all times

You need to go into it expecting to die a few times. You'll start to learn the flow and then it becomes the best xp you can possibly get in the game

If you want to mess around with getting XP from both mobs (pet and enemy) each fight, and you're working with mobs near the same level.. you might start without using haste to minimize the chaos during a charm break.

If your pet is winning you can use "sit" to slow your pets DPS and help the mob catch up. If the mob is winning you can toss a dot or nuke to even out the fight. Just be careful with DD dmg as you can break root.

This is how I started and it has been really effective. Just 1 of many ways to do it but I feel like this is a lower risk strat while still maximizing XP (assuming both mobs are of similar level).

This is terrible advice for someone looking to learn how to charm.

@OP - leave the torches and haste for later. Just charm, send it in, root the other mob(s). If your pet is "winning," just spam the sit button on the pet window. It'll take max damage hits and it won't swing as much. The HP will even out.

Karnor's basement is a great place to get familiar. Safe spots to sit at, all undead, no harm touches, etc.
