Microsoft buys ZeniMax 7.5b
 

ZeniMax recently signed an agreement to sell ZeniMax Media, Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios studios to Microsoft for 7.5 billion.

ZeniMax was private so the board had to agree to sell. Back in Aug Robert Trump, a member of the board, passed away. Some speculate this spurred the board to push for a sale but that's not to say robert cared about games.

Let's go back in time to Oblivion, Horse Armor. It was pushed by console's Microsoft xbox and sony playstation to be a paid DLC and as we know now the famous PAID Horse Armor DLC. As a such it was forced to be a paid dlc on PC too.

Do y'all think this will affect the games past, present and future or will micro$oft let the game studios do their own thing?

Most likely some of both. MS historically lets studios it owns run quasi-independently for awhile then gets bored and tinkers and/or shuts them down. This includes highly successful studios like Ensemble. There might be a few exceptions but that's the general pattern.

This is the death of ZeniMax/Bethesda. Microsoft only wants them for the IP and the residuals. The quality has already gone down with recent games, but now the entire development staffs and creative teams will be dismissed.

Think of Fallout 76 as the beta testing grounds for how Elder Scrolls will be handled.

wonder how the next Fallout will look like if there will be any at all since the last one (Fallout76) was a pretty much a failure as far as Ive heard.

I've always been really happy with Microsoft games in the past, even though of course I was a Kool-Aid drinking Microsoft hater like everyone back in the day.

I think Bethesda/Zenimax are done either way. There's zero creativity and passion left in that studio, it's all just derivative money-making now. Every one of their franchises has been beaten to death. Did like some of their earlier titles but it's all just boring replays now. It's like they're just re-skinning stuff.
