Auction Tracker Updating

For someone not familiar with the process, how does the auction tracker get updated for each item in the wiki?

Vizax_Xaziv 11-28-2019 10:00 PM

I believe it simply parses log files

The auction tracker was for BLUE and even that was outdated a bit and missing some things. There is not an auction tracker for Green or Teal, but you could make one if you have the skills and time to dig into it.

here are the resources i have been using. they aren't perfect but have been useful for me in determining prices. actual prices on teal have generally been higher than the averages shown on the unixgeek site (maybe because it combines wtb and wts?). anyway, its not much data to work with but it helps. kudos to the creators.

This is all great, but the correct answer to:

is that people (like you!) upload their log files to this page:

http://wiki.project1999.com/Special:AuctionTracker

(Log files can be found by character name in the Logs folder of your EverQuest directory.)

The wiki will then look at people's "WTS" messages in those logs, and add pricing entries to its database based on them. The more people upload logs, the better/more accurate the pricing info will get ... although it will always be a little more skewed towards sellers, as it goes by the WTS price and not the final sale price.

Thanks for the feedback. This validates my initial thoughts.

As the author, (apologies for this late reply, but) no, it does not include "WTB" lines (which rarely include values to begin with). It's a simple parser that looks for "WTS <item_name> <price>, ..." where item_name is from a static list of known items in EQ. It does attempt to distinguish between prices in plat, and prices in "k", "kp", etc but beyond that it's not that smart.

It's not perfect, and people put in non-standard lines in weird formats with extraneous numeric data.

With teal/green being up a while now, I can start culling out the stuff that's just wildly outside the "normal" ranges for an item.

Here are the steps.
  • First you need to download GamParse.
  • Load up GameParse and then load up a character log from the File menu under 'Load Entire Log File'. Note your logs are in the Everquest folder under logs. (Further note: In order for logging to work you must first turn it on. See this link for further info. https://www.project1999.com/forums/s...d.php?t=103441)
  • Click on the 'Chats' Tab.
  • Click on 'Auctions' in the list on the left.
  • Click on 'Save Displayed Results' to your desktop. Something like Auctions.txt or what not.
  • Visit the following link. https://wiki.project1999.com/Special:AuctionTracker
  • Click on 'Choose Log' select the auction.txt file.
  • Type a name for your Contribution. It doesn't have to be your character name.
  • Select the correct server.
  • Click on 'Upload'.

It's with these contributions that the auction prices get updated on the wiki.
