Missing low level class specific armor quest

I've started playing a few new characters and notice all the low level class/race specific armor quest are missing from the game. All the NPC's mobs and drops related to the quest. These quest weren't tied to any expansion and considered original content.
One example is the Druid Leafrunner armor set. You get these armor between levels 5-10.
It would awesome if these armor sets were added into P99.

that stuff was added well after classic, like ykesha era

Its when things were introduced in the Everquest timeline. Many things were added to the original zones throughout the expansions. You'll only see them here if they got added between Original, Kunark and Velious.

These newbie quests were added around 2002 in PoP/LoY and are beyond p99's timeline

yeah but they aren't expansion related. These quest are considered original content. The expansion aren't required for that content.
So does that mean we will see this content Jan 2023? And it should definitely be out on the Blue server by now then. I haven't checked the blue server to see if they are there or not. I think they should add them since it's really good content and it's not like P99 is following the EQ releases exactly.

It's kind of incredible how quickly they developed and rolled out the original content when you think about it, especially given the technology of the time. Game launches in March '99, Velious basically ends at the end of '01

The technology of the time made it easier to add that sort of stuff. The newbie armor this thread relates to didn't need unique textures or custom 3D assets, so it was in effect just a series of database additions. Even things which required assets, like zones, were nowhere near so intricate as their modern equivalents. Modern games using high-detail graphics and assets hamstring themselves in the sense that any addition becomes a slow and expensive process. Cost control has been a big factor in the shift towards simple and cheap mobile games.

But isn’t that why MMO’s have the monthly fee * number of players, to cover new content?

It's not about the money, it's about the actual complexity of the content itself. It takes time to make new textures. More complex modern textures and models take more time to make than the limited things made back then.

Edit: Ah you're talking about the last sentence I skimmed over. There's always a cost to scaling and then managing larger projects. The ROI on simple to make and consume is generally better than trying to be the next-big-thing to justify a big budget.

I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding here. P99 is not "content deemed original." It is "as the server was in 1999-2001." Classic content is not the same as content marked as "not for an expansion."

Those things will never be added to p99. The timeline ends before PoP, anything added after that is not in scope for p99.

P99 is following EQ releases as much as they can, and doesn't have content that far out of scope. I think the most egregious "not in that era" is the pet bar. There are also non-classic things like /list, but that's not the same as out-of-era content. That's "how to balance classic with modern knowledge, playerbase, and playing nice". I don't want to discuss the merit of that line of thought, just point out it's entirely different than adding content not added until later.

You are sort of correct but not. In live, those are doable without expansions, but on a timeline release server like this, they will NEVER come. The first half of them begin in the Luclin Era, with a few more added in PoP, but our timeline stops in velious. Leafrunner never comes to Project 1999
