Best tank before discs?
 

Aren't wars only better raid tanks bc of defensive?
Who is the best in vanilla lvl 50? Also when we're discs implented?

Disciplines happened in Kunark era. Warriors still have higher skill caps and HP than Pally/SK besides that. They also get a magic resist bonus, which was important during the era of the game when getting max magic resist on a character was difficult. Warrior is the best raid tank in every era.

Bards cause taking 0 dmg = best tank

It really boils down to threat. If a lot of collateral damage is happening secondary to weak warrior aggro OR the group is having to dial back considerably to compensate, knights are better.

Disc or no disc, it if the mob (boss or mundane) is locked on the tank warriors win out almost always. A case could be made that a 59+ paladin in velious with the new HoT requires less healing if mana regen permits frequent use, but evasive 3 minutes up 4 minutes down before refresh likely results in more total damage avoidance than the heal covers.

Warriors have highest hp totals and highest returns on armor class. Disc or no disc they take less damage so as originally stated it boils down to aggro/thread.

Vanilla classic?

Rangers! 210 vs 200 skill instead of the rediculous skill gap Kunark gave us.

The thorncoat line of buffs give mitigation boost unattainable to other tanks. Better parry and dodge than Knights. damage shield for when they do get hit. Rubicite or Lustrous russet from hate, so wearing the same stats and AC as anyone else. If we include those planes they also get some quest items including 50%haste click.

It was Paladins and SKs pre-kunark but we didn't burn 1000s of plats of mallets for every fight.

It will be warriors with mallets, same as it is here.
