Bard song movement
 

I have noticed when I strafe my spells go off and continue to play as I strafe and walking backwards, but once I hit forward the song stops.

Why is that?

Also do you change you keys to strafe instead of forward, left and right?

Not a regular game mechanic, you can move forward while singing/playing an instrument. Open your keybindings in options, view all, and see if you have forward also mapped to some other ability, macro, or command. My guess is you’re firing off two commands each time you press that single button.

Checked and forward was binded to another command.

Fixed that and it’s working.

So much easier now!

For the directional keys I have forward set to forward, back to back. I changed the turn right and turn left keys to strafe right and strafe left. I don't use the turn right/left commands. Instead, I use the mouse to rotate my character (hold right mouse button). I always found the turn right/left commands to be slow and awkward. To strafe diagonally just hold forward and strafe right/left.
