Met a new coworker yesterday who also grew up on EQ but on a bluebie server. Dude knew all the lore and shit and was surprised I knew nothing.

Was lore even a thing on rz or other pvp servers?

no lore did not exist on pvp servers. npcs said nothing and the world was bare.
