I'm pretty sure manastone stopped working in planes after it was removed. Either that, or the introduction of Kunark stopped them from working in the planes. Can't remember which, but I'm 100% sure it was one of them.

A nice item I acquired when Kunark was first released was was the Gem Encrusted Ring. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=1649

SOE later removed the Gem Encrusted Ring, but it dropped from giants (and others) when Kunark released. It was a lot of fun to buy Kunark, dl it, get together with some friends, and the first giant I killed dropped it. It was an upgrade for me! Exciting as heck. :D
