Most of these are pretty awful. I would like to do some of the people on this list a favor by bringing their crappy names to the GMs attention so that maybe they'll be lucky enough to get a better one.

Arkis 06-22-2010 01:56 AM

Going to say: inb4 R&F.

But seriously...some of those names seem like personal taste hate. I don't find many of them "horrible" at all...

Lessplay for example I find nothing wrong with that he's a bard! (Maybe im missing a reference?) What's wrong with Wikicat?

Hell a lot of those names:

Greenpeace - maybe not a reference to greenpeace... he IS a druid in all green

Fearstalker - so what? you can be known as Fearstalker the horrible assassin if you want RPing.

Fatbody - Dude is an ogre.

Let the GMs do their own policing =P.

On a side note anyone notice that we have gone from camping of raid bosses last week to now naming policies?...lol...

And I already mentioned it in another thread, but "Shitster" has been alive and well for a few days now, up to level 22 now. It'll be interesting to see if these people get away with this childish nonsense. We're at a point where we can establish what type of server this will be: one with at least the impression of integrity, or one where kiddies have their way.

There's a difference between "Sweaty Nutz" and "Blahblah". Just because you don't like a name doesn't mean it's childish nonsense.

And I don't see your point, considering the name I listed was very similar to the one you just mentioned. And frankly, I couldn't care less about your assessment of my opinion.

Pyrocat 06-22-2010 02:09 AM

You missed my point then. I was saying Shitster should probably be changed (but I doubt it's high on any GM's priority). Blahblah should not.

Classically, none of these names would remain untouched forever on any 1999 server. I'm essentially going by similar naming policy to classic official EQ servers and are detrimental to the "classic" feel of the server. Personal taste enters into it a little bit, but for the most part the criteria are objective. Descriptive names, offensive terms, titles instead of names, references to controversial subjects, phrases, just plain juvenile shit, etc.

Tseng 06-22-2010 02:25 AM

What are the chances you have the balls to post what your toon's name is?

Arkis 06-22-2010 02:28 AM

How do you know the naming policies of classic? I don't want to look it up, but yes "offensive terms", "titles instead of names", and "references to controversial subjects" seem like they should be removed classic or not.

However descriptive names are one thing that I don't remembering being enforced. If by that you mean something like "Fearstalker", "Wikicat", or "Fatbody". Then go here:

http://project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=7523

Similar names can be found as a "Classic name" to list a few:

Triumph
Soulcat
Bardic
Dangergirl
Celestialsky

So, some of the names you mentioned, by the classic criteria you want to follow, would not be there. But I have gone on long enough, you have your opinion and I have mine =)... in the end the GMs rule hehe.
