A question to European players, especially those in the UK.

Hi guys often when I play on p1999 I am experiencing high latency. Sometimes 1100 ish ms. My internet connection is a decent one, I am just wondering is this solely because I am based in London, or is there anything else I can do to change this?

Swish 03-21-2013 08:41 AM

It shouldn't be that high, on a good day I'm on about 200, sometimes when the server is busy it tends to go up to ~400-450.

Are you playing on wireless and at a fair distance from the router? If so, try plugging an ethernet cable in, or even buying a 20 metre one if nobody objects to you running it along the wall :D. Will make the connection more stable.

Based in Essex, so not far from you.

I occasionally play while in France and a good day is about 150-200 ms. I've also played from Birmingham a handful of times and seem to recall ~200 ms.

I am plugged into the router, so I have no idea as to why its like this. My computer is also very powerful so I just dont see any reason why it should be so high:(

Has it always been that high or just recently? When was the last time you reset the router? Clutching at straws but an old router I had was famed for literally stopping for about 1-2 seconds and carrying on, piece of crap...and a reset used to (seemingly) help it behave :p

It seems totally random! It was fine today but the last couple of days before its been awful. I will try restarting router each time I log on and see if that has an effect. Thanks again:)

For what it's worth I get an average of 180-200ms from the Czech Republic which
Is expected for transatlantic latency. When I was in the United States it was around 60s or so.

Uk here too, mine averages around 140.

Start by removing your router from the equation.

Check your hops to p99 servers via 'MTR', it's basically traceroute but has some additional features.
