Petition to make tobacco products schedule 1 drugs
 

My friend created this petition, I thought it was really interesting. His idea was to highlight the hypocrisy of the marijuana debate; why are cigarettes not even subject to the laws of the Controlled Substances Act?

There's a pretty clear difference between a mind-altering substance that impairs short-term memory, motor function, etc and smoking a cigarette. It's also pretty clear that one can acknowledge this fact while not endorsing prohibition.

If the best argument the "legalize" movement has to mobilize popular opinion is to appeal for the expansion of the nanny state and banning of tobacco.. then God help us all.
