Saidar - The attention you didn't get tonight

My friend Jaladin has limited play time and that often comes with distractions. So he spends most of his time in EC, I regularly pick up items in my travels and he enjoys holding item give-aways for the lower levels there. Tonight I suggested we go to Gfay and help out the underpriveleged who are farther from the server's heart of commerce.

We had a good turnout, about 20 folks, most got items, all got buffs. Saidar saw fit to use it as a gold-mine of much needed attention, and attempted to disrupt it with Jboot spamming, and immature antics like this:

[Sun Jul 11 20:48:17 2010] Saidar says, 'the person to have the worst insult for Jaladin wins Savant's Cap - GO!'

The lower level folks were mature enough to ignore him. Eventually he went away, ignored by the folks who were more caught up in the enjoyable social event that it was.

I spoke to Norril, from his guild, while he was showing his ass. He felt that since jboot spamming was not against the rules it was fine by him, and that since he did give away an item he was justified in being a douche in the process.

It doesn't take a particularly brilliant individual to find ways to troll without breaking any rules. However, whether a person breaks rules or not, every action comes with consequences.

I have no interest in putting anyone on blast, or persuading anyone of my opinion on the matter. I feel like the community is the most important and definitive aspect of classic everquest. I spend a lot of my time looking for folks who are struggling, because I know how frustrating it is to be in need, and to have to find someone willing to help. Even if that person is so pitiful that they can't get someone to speak to them without resorting to this behavior.

If I saw you naked with a corpse in the middle of nowhere, I would still offer to help, because it might spark a redeeming quality in you, and it costs me nothing to give someone more respect than is due.

I'd like to be the first to point out that you are giving him attention.

So you made a post about saidar bc he was spamming jboots and making comments??? Ignore him and move on. You're gonna be making a lot of posts if you continue playing... Sounds to me like you wanted to get noticed about your giveaway, which is perfectly fine but you try to bash someone to do it.

You sound like a good person and generous player - so kudos on that. However, I don't know what your insistence on bringing this to the boards is. The player you were talking to (Norril) brought this up when it happened and we were looking into it - in fact, it happened while a number of officers were in the middle of a separate discussion so we were actively talking about it when you decided to tell Norril essentially that you didn't want to waste your time with DA and were going to post this on the board regardless.

Personally I don't feel that his actions warrant any sort of serious reprimand as honestly, it is nothing more than a mild annoyance (if even that). However, as you were clearly bothered by it - at the very least we could have gotten him to stop doing it had you given us the opportunity.

The way I see this is that you were looking for an excuse to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

This is par for the course for DA members. If they're not acting like 9-year-olds they're officers suffering from delusions of grandeur while they "review the matter" (translation: give bad behavior a big stamp of approval and two thumbs up).

At some point some guild is going to emerge as one that is both accomplished and capable of filtering out disgusting people. Divinity's the closest I've seen to doing that so far.

Did DA do something to offend you? You say it has happened on many occasions, but have you ever talked to an officer about it? You are constantly bashing us and give no examples...

I hope we can change your perception of the guild. I am disappointed that you have had such poor experiences. As for the current matter: we have spoken to the individuals involved as well as others who were around during the situation and resolved the matter to our satisfaction. I apologize if that does not satisfy your thirst for justice, but that is all that we are going to discuss on the matter.

Proof? Examples? Members you have specifically had an issue with?

Be happy to address and explain or deal with anything that has happened to you. Until you provide one of those, I am going to assume your view of our guild is based on what you have heard and made up your mind unfairly.

"Giving bad behavior a big stamp of approval and two thumbs up"... Any idea how many people we've booted for general asshattery? No, you have absolutely no clue because its much easier to just SAY we approve of it, than to have any real proof otherwise.
