That same annoying question! What class?

Hello all! I am returning after a long hiatus after I had read the poor EQMac players got robbed, and saw lots of them starting up here. So I figured I would have some great adventures with some new people.

My question is, I currently have a Druid and Necro, both of which are pure solo classes and I am sort of bored of playing. I would like to know, what classes are always seemed to be sought after? I know cleric, but they seem they would be painful to level, I also only have a few things on my lowbie warrior I can sell off of him to try and get the funds for some minor twinkage, so a low budget but enjoyable class to level that the server is short of (cleric is a possibility as long as they are cheap to outfit).

Before the whole, play what you like comes out, I really enjoy all of the classes in EQ but I would like to be able to enjoy the 50+ scene as that was my favorite grouping part of kunark, I love all of the adventures I had at those levels, but as a druid and necro those times on a server like this are spent sitting for hours spamming lfg or trying to create your own.

Thanks for the advice everyone who responds!

TL;DR Need a low budget fun class, that is needed in groups to start playing with the recent spike in newly created characters.

I recently started a warrior, up to 17 now. Believe it or not I almost never see tanks. On my other chars (who aren't 60) finding a tank for a part is usually a pain. If you wanna be groupable and sought after I'd say go tank.

Also believe it or not, even as overplayed as monks are, monk is a great class for grouping. Even with two or three in a group, sometimes you can avoid having a tank and just spread the damage around the 3 (annoying for buffers/healers) but its better than nothing. Rogue is a similar story, minus the tanking. Lots of new players go casters since its basically free when it comes to gear (save spells) and the melee are often lacking.

My two cents.

If you're anti-tank I suppose.. you were leaning away from solo, hmm.

Shaman is a great duo class with many classes and end up OP.

Enc ditto just like shamans.

Bard if you want carpal tunnel, but I mean, its fun getting it. So hell yeah carpal tunnel.

Other good duo/trio classes.. there are a bunch. Just avoid the classes you're forced to solo with which would be like dru, wiz (dep on group), necro (good for group but you said you were burnt out).

SK/Pal if you aren't interested in quadding/critting and wanna cast spells, FD, Rez.

How is the life of leveling a warrior? I would think it would be similar to stabbing my eyes numerous times with a wooden spoon after a while... plus the price of gearing is insane (why i stopped gearing mine).

I mean, pickup a healer friend or two and venture off. Druids are overpopulated, you can buy bandages, and clerics are pretty decently played here surprisingly. Finding healers is way easier than finding tanks. You'll prob have to stick to the stereotypical zones to hunt but that's not a big deal, assuming you want the social experience.

As far as gear, doesn't matter that much, I mean if you love the class you'll play him, earn cash, level up, gear up. It'll just happen. If you don't like him you'll know fast. I personally loved mine, esp when you start critting at 12, berserking is hella fun, when you start quadding consistently around the mid 30s its nonstop action.

Then later on with discs, same story, a lot of variety.

Gotta remember a lot of the best gear is no drop like Skean. Also to start out a lowbie war is NP. Hell I mean just get full bronze and go at it, you don't gotta be full Cobalt to have a good time, ask Filbus :D

Do some research on no drop gear. I took my war to KC at lvl 5 and grabbed a bunch of Jarsath Scale Armor, free, easy AC and some str/dex. No brainer and hell, FREE. Research no drops all over EQ, they are massively overlooked.

Stop hating on SK/paladin tanks guys. Yes I'm talking to you. It's time to make a change on P99.

So, where I kind of stand now is Monk, Bard, Rogue, Warrior... Monk is pretty overplayed but seems like a lot of fun... Bard seems overplayed, but everyone tells me there is no need for them really in raiding, and most dont know how to group properly, and Rogues and Warriors are very expensive to gear (I understand the if you have fun aspect, but it can get rough with poor gear and lack of consistent groups to play with).

I would love a paladin, except for the fact that the xp penalty is absolutely brutal, and falls under my "im a cheap bastard and cant afford them" mentality... i struggle with that regularly.

Bards are extremely useful in raids - I don't know where you're getting the idea that they're not needed in raiding. Their resist songs are amazing.

I would personally recommend bards. They're great solo, great in groups, great in raids, and don't need amazing gear. Going with a tank is also a solid option - you can get some decent aggro weapons for a warrior for relatively cheap (couple hundred to couple thousand plat), or roll a naked SK or paladin and do perfectly well.

I am really leaning towards bard, I like the idea of being able to just do so much... between the mass kiting, and serving multiple roles in groups... it has always interested me, and its the only class in EQ I havent leveled past 30...
