Project 1999 Marketplace

Here's an idea I have been tossing around with Bob. I don't know if people will actually use it, so I am interested in gauging a response from the community. I will not charge commission on anything, it is simply a listing of what people are looking to buy or sell. However, I may play with the idea of people posting premium spots (think ads) or highlighting their listing for some platinum.

It will be extremely useful statistically to figure out the trends of item pricing and to see how much people are paying in order to maximize your profits or reduce getting played by people who abuse newbies.

Here is the current concept:

Let me know what you think. If you like it, what features would you want?

THIS IS AWESOME.

//EDIT: In b4 QQ EC this will ruin the market etc.

I don't like it because abusing newbies is classic.

Grimfan 08-03-2010 06:29 PM

I like it, I dislike being abused :D

But in all seriousness, getting people to use this will be the challenge. I would love to use it myself though.

I think it would be nice, that is, if people actually use it.

so you want to create a web based auction house via chat logs to circumvent there being no auction house in classic?

I dont like....

now if you wanted to create a site like EQPRICES.COM was id be all for it.

Bazaar without the lag.
EC without the trains.
I like it.

stormiejs 08-03-2010 07:11 PM

It wouldn't replace EC, you could gladly keep spamming your auctions in EC. It's more or less for people who don't want to sit around in EC or are looking for items that are going to require them to spam it for months. I won't be providing any sort of functionality for communication, you'll still have to talk and trade with people ingame.

There's also no reason to start QQing now because there is already a website showing graphs with min/max and averages of item pricing using logs from EC.

Qaedain 08-03-2010 07:16 PM

I think just the ability to post a WTS or WTB that lists the item, the seller's name, the price, and the date of posting will suffice. I would prefer if the item linked to the Allakhazam entry.

Your design seems to cover those bases. The only other feature I could see would be a "notes" section that could hold seller/buyer comments about trades or any special arrangements.

I agree that in-game communication remains essential.
