SWG Emu

So I have just noticed that the SWG Emu server is about 10% or less away from being complete and launching into a short Beta before their full release. This really excites me! :D I was a die hard SWG fan and played it till they shut down the servers officially and I would like to form a P99 Guild over there and give a fellow Emu server a welcome from the EverQuest crowd.

Have a lot of you played SWG? Would anyone like to join me in this? It would be nice to get familiar now again before official launch. Gotta grind those Krayt parts and Acklay bones, know what I'm sayin? I am also pretty interested in PvP personally, so if we ran a PvP guild that would be even better, though that isn't necessary since you can find PvP fairly easy on that game. I am also prone to the Imperials. =P Though I guess I could handle being a dirty Rebel.

Anyway, hoping to hear from a few people. I am excited to get my 32 Profession grind on again. =P

I remember taking a survey back in the day on EQ about how i would enjoy a star wars themed MMO. I never played it but always have wanted to try it

If you like sandboxes and StarWars, you just might like SWG. SWG has been the most complex and in-depth MMO I have ever played regarding your characters. You literally can do any combination of skills, and nothing is OP, but there are definitely skill combo's that are great, everything can be trumped by something else. The customization goes from your character all the way to how you want to decorate your house if you are in to that sort of thing. I know I spent hours upon hours in my house and my friends houses making some extravagant masterpiece of a house. You literally make your characters story. There is no < go here > in SWG.

I've tried this server about a year ago, seemed pretty accurate, I had no idea what to do for the hour or so that I logged in, which was the same experience I had when the game was originally released

I started playing at Jump to Lightspeed.... is that the SWG equivalent of Luclin? :D

This sounds interesting. I still have my original discs.

Wasnt the only box that existed live a year ago though?

me and samwise played on it for a while, or is it a completely new box?

Cant remember the name of the server we played on

SWG was one of my favorite sandboxes, only thing i thought it lacked was there wasnt enough dungeon like places in it, like geonosis

ya its the same one. i mite check it out once its fully done, i was pretty impressed with what they had so far but pvp was lacking.

Okay guys, I have some comments as I have played thoroughly on SWG EMU, and there are a number of issues you should be aware of that are NOT like SWG used to be. Yes, it is Pre-CU to a degree, but it does have some key points where they deviate, and it fucks up the server pretty bad.

1) The server doesn't have a Rogean/Nilbog with the specific goal of keeping things "classic" as much as possible. What this means is that the people running the server are not trying to mimic the real SWG.

How so? You can make up to 10 characters per account, and dual box. This creates a *huge* flaw in the economy of the game that relied upon people having 1 toon per server per account, and only 10 deed slots. Now, you can manage up to 100 deed slots without paying for 10 subscriptions. Needless to say, this means the economy is in a terrible place, and you *cannot* make money as an artisan.

In other words, because you do not have to choose between combat/medic/entertainer/artisan with your one and only character, every player that is there is a combat toon, a medic, an entertainer, and an artisan.

2) Pets do not work, so Creature Handler/Droid Engineer are not working.

3) Jedi will be going the Village route, not the holocron/old man route, and will NOT have permadeath, so the server will heavily inflate with Jedi, just as the game did pre-CU. Note that Jedi are not currently done.

4) Due to the huge inflation of artisans, finding exactly what you need is very hard. The bazaar, as per the game, does not have a search function, which is fine when you, as a player, must choose between a combat toon, a doctor, an artisan, or an entertainer... But when *everyone* has a merchant, there are issues of huge numbers of items making the Bazaar difficult to use.

5) JTL is not in the game yet, as they are aiming to finish DE/Creature Handler + Jedi, and then work on JTL.

--------------

If you still play, look me up. I am Vighvatr on Basilisk Server. Master Commando/Master Teras Kasi/x1xx Smuggler.
