BlackJack opinion..lost a big bet - did I make the right play?
 

I was playing 2 spots - the 2nd to last position and the anchor. The seats were filled.

2nd to last spot - $25 bet - 10/2
anchor - $1,500 - A/3

Dealer - showing a 3.

Initially, I was going to stay with my 12, but there were like four 10's dealt before me, so I figured I could eat a few low cards on my bets, so dealer can bust. So I hit on my my 12, I got a 6. Stayed...

Now the question of my big bet. I decided to double down, because I didn't want to overthink and ponder at what to do, so I doubled and I got a 10. Great I got a 14. Now I have to earn this one...

Dealer ended up showing a 13 like I expected and got a 7 and took my money. The whole time, if I didn't double, I would've taken another card and I would've gotten a 21 and saved the table. Of course I made the right play by the book, but I should've trusted my gut and played the shoe. Oh well, you win some and you lose some big ones :(

You have to put some faith in a sixth sense when playing blackjack.

This is my opinion with not knowing what type of deck count/shuffler you're working with, but I would have played it differently. That dealer 3 is a bitch no matter what. Instinctively, I would have stayed on the 12 and doubled on my Ace (which most people I know wouldn't do on a dealer 3 because the draw out chance is higher). I play more 'by the book' and it would have worked out in that scenario but it doesn't always. Sorry to hear about the bad beat.

You know..if it was like a $100 bet, I would've done that without hesitation, but once the bets go over $1,000...it's scary to not play by the book and get owned :(

AC is 8 decks. I don't usually fuck with the shufflers. I'd normally sit at the $100 tables with 6 decks, but this was just closer and I was itching to play.

That's the biggest hurdle in gambling. You have to separate yourself from the dollar value before putting it on the table and making the play. While I've seen gut instincts win here and there, and even succumb to them myself, I see a solid/logical system work more often. I just hope that wasn't your rent/mortgage money. :)

I forget what casino in AC it was but when I was there 5 or 6 years ago they had a couple tables of single-deck blackjack. The catch was they would start over and shuffle when there was still a good number of cards left, I forget how many exactly (I think like 15). All the people playing it when I was there were Eastern Europeans.

I went to the casino a few months back, was playin blackjack riding the table good until this girl sat down next to me.

She gets a 14 with dealer showin a 5. I got two 8s, split, get another 8 split, get a 3 and a 2 so I double down, end up with like 19,17, and 20. Stupid chick pulls a 10 for her 14 and busts. The dealer pulls a 6 and gets 21

I told her to her face "you just cost me $280.... $140 for what I had out there and what I woulda won. If you dont know how to play cards you shouldnt be at the tables"

Then her lil boyfriend was all trying to fight me sayin I cant talk to her that way etc.

It was good except for losin 140 bucks sorry I am still a little upset

You did not make the right play by the book.
A/3 doubles only against a dealer 5 or 6. The correct play was to hit.
12 hits against a dealer 2/3, but stays against 4/5/6. The correct play was to hit.

Soft aces are tricky. For the record...
A/2 & A/3 double against 5/6
A/4 & A/5 double against 4/5/6
A/6 & A/7 double against 3/4/5/6

If you don't want to lose money, don't gamble and don't invest in the stock market. There's my best advice.

I wish I knew more about blackjack...really enjoyed it in Vegas, and locally I've had people betting on my hand behind me before (which I hate) because they like my thinking. I don't card count anything other than 10/J/Q/Ks and Aces but its hard these days when they use 8-10 decks.
