Osargen - HHK
I want to get an understanding of how things are understood here in P 1999 about 'using' Osargen as a means to level. I will honor the situation as it is and am leaving Osargen alone, but this situation has its arguments both sides.
Last night I went to HHK because I recalled Osargen was a viable camp for a soloing 23 mage to kill for a few hours and get level 24. When I got to the cell, every mob was gone, but no one was there, So I summoned a pet, burnout, and daggers, and settled in but was ready to move if anyone else came to kill him who claimed the camp. Sometimes you have to go replenish food and drink and other things. Prisoner 1 popped, died, prisoner 2 popped, died, and then Osargen popped and he too died to my pet. I loot up and turn around and an Enchanter is sitting there saying he could have been pulled something but that would have made him a ****. I recalled that Enchanters can also use him as a charm pet to kill other mobs in the zone. Enchanter also used the phrase "been charming him all day for hours" (paraphrased) but conveyed he had the mob and was using it. Well I walked away, we had some chuckles, and nothing bad happened. Here's the thing though. I do not feel that I had done anything to "KS" a camp as no one was there to claim Osargen when I came in, and Osargen's timer is about 6ish minutes (as memory serves) and I waited most of that time for him to spawn. It comes down to this - Mage killing Osargen vs Enchanter Charming him. It seems to me the Enchanter lost the camp at that point for not being on site to charm him. But I did the right thing, the nice thing, and respected the player enough to not contest it. But here I am 6 hours later, logging back in and the same player is there charming Osargen. remembering him say he had it "all day' for "hours" means to me if he does not watch it, someone (like me as I did it last night) will come along and kill Osargen fairly and there goes the charm kiting tool for Enchanter(s). I am going to go elsewhere to get level 24, but this raises a question, situational as it is. Should Enchanter be on spawn point to keep Osargen as his 'camped' mob to charm or can Enchanter lose camp should an enterprising Mage(or other class) sit in the cell with Fluffy primed and ready to attack and make a kill? I want to be a good member among our community but I really feel I could have claimed the camp at that point. Flames and rants welcome. |
From what I understand, you have to be pretty much on the spawn point for it to be your mob. Otherwise its just a courtesy call to give someone a few minutes to do what they want to do.

You can't charm camp Osargen. That's absurd. If an Enchanter has him in the basement, that's great. If he is up in the cell and you setup shop, he is yours to camp. When I was in HK and this happened, I would just grab a lookout instead.

Seems like you had the camp claimed fair and square.. if the chanter isn't good enough to keep his mob under check its open season.
Its *far from* the only mob in zone to charm, a good chanter uses a variety of pets and understands all of their strengths and weaknesses. I understand he's the in zone burst damage king (until you can charm Anna) but yeah, its not the end of the world for the chanter if you're camping osargen. |
some terrible blue toxicity, avoid like plauge

Fix the shit pathing and it would not be an issue to keep him charmed.

Yeah but the other "pets" in the zone don't backstab for 200ish :p
I can see his frustration - looks like everyone will do anything for any shortcut in this game and get mad when they don't get it or get caught. |
Still tho, its like, there are two possible outcomes
1 enc does 90 dps mag lfg doing nothing 2 enc does 60 dps mag has a camp in 1, one player is operating at 100% and the other at 0% in 2, one player is operating at ~70% and the other at >0% Even not considering the rules, option 2 seems better to me but that's just how I think. |
More widely, I'd say as time has passed on P99 the spirit of EQ has been eroded just a little. Sure people still give out stuff to noobs, but there's certainly more assholes on blue than there ever was when I was first leveling.
Could be the pop growth/more camp disputes etc... but a lot of people seem to think its okay to turn into a douchebag when things aren't perfect. Plus that recent Verina Tomb thing, real douchey. |
