NEC - SHM - or DRU? (some plat to twink with)
Hi all,
Been on p1999 for a while and have a 51 mag that I am totally tired of (I find the magician class just really boring to play, both solo and in groups). I would like to create a new alt and am looking for some advice both on what to make and how to gear them. I have a very hectic schedule, so I really only get to play 1-3 hours at a time sporadically which makes a melee class a pretty tough choice. I think I would like to try a necro, shaman, or druid. I have been reading the threads on this forum and all seem to be like very common suggestions (along wit enc, though I don't want to play one) for someone with my schedule. More specifically though, I'd like to hear some thoughts on which require you to be more active when you are in groups? I would like to combine that with something that can solo pretty well with an hour here and there to play. Finally, apart from the suggestion on class, I will have about 10k plat total to gear him. Depending on your class suggestion, what are the most important items in this price range to buy to help while leveling? Thanks! |
Shaman is really fun, but they take a bit to really start feeling like a shaman. You dont get your mana machine until 24, good roots until 34, and so on. Additionally, they can be expensive due to high demand for their spells and certain pieces of loot.
Druid is great, offers you a decent means to make money. Relatively cheap from what I hear, and I don't think super high demand for their spells. But of course, my bias being noted, I'd say go Necromancer. All you really need is cheap Int gear like Stein of Mogguk, some HP rings (Adamantite Bands or Platinum Fire Wedding Rings). You will need to invest in something like a Circlet of Shadow (but with a 51 Mage, you could probably just run down in Droga and solo the spot, or get a rotting one). Cheap to make, the most expensive spell you'll have to deal with is an Emissary of Thule which goes for 15-20k, but isn't a super priority spell. Further, it's fun. You have a variety of soloing styles that develop. You can be a great asset to a group by playing in yet another style, very different from what you do when you solo. It's a varied class with a lot of different styles of play. |
if you want to get groups reliably, go with shaman. If you need brief random afk's then you can't beat the necro's FD.

Shamans are in the highest demand for groups out of those three, and they are certainly very active groupers - they have a pet, lots of buffs to keep track of, cannibalizing to do, and healing. Very busy class to play in a group or solo (though as mentioned they are somewhat less active in early levels), and a lot of fun. Solo they are not good until you get your epic, although with 10k you can get some melee gear (poison wind censer, HP stuff) that will make your early levels fast (though meleeing will slow down later on and root-dotting will probably be faster exp once you hit your 20s-30s if you don't have a fungi).

`a 51 mag that I am totally tired of (I find the magician class just really boring to play`
if you find casters boring, then imo dru or nec wont be much of a change. have you tried a monk or bard? shm is probably the most fun caster. As you can opt to spend half the time in melee. Which gives fights a bit more edge to them. necro is the most powerful class imo (having played a necro to 76 on live) but I still felt it was a bit dull esp in the grp game. FInd the class that fits your personal style. |
I played a bard on live to about 55, so while I did find it fun I want to try something else. I think if it was back in time I would like to play a melee class but I just don't have the time anymore to be so group dependent.
