PSA: Rogues/Bards/Monks and carpal tunnel...
https://i.chzbgr.com/maxW500/3934847488/h355454DF/
Since playing my rogue I started getting a tingling sensation in my left arm. Figured it was nothing at first, just something that would go away. Turns out I picked up carpal tunnel syndrome. How? Pressing 1 consistently when my backstab was close to refreshing, and doing that for every backstab in a 3-4 hour session for lots of sessions  Luckily I haven't got it bad, but I just wanted to warn people who mash hotkeys on their keyboards that shit can and does happen to you :p Please...be careful when playing EQ... http://static.tumblr.com/aqfouhb/NFw...8332299e6.jpeg |
I just started a bard, I'm afraid of carpel tunnel already :(
|
backstab mapped to thumb button on mouse is the only way to play.
|
It develops due to repetitive muscle strain, try to rest your hand a different way or remap shit so you can lay your hand down different for a few hours.
|
Age has something to do with this as well. My left hand was killing me after playing my Bard for a couple of hours. That didn't happen 14 years ago.
|
need to stay hydrated when playing eq.
I keep refilling a water bottle (with tap water) and try take drink every 8mins or so. |
Personally I saw screw mashing backstab when it's close to refreshing; I just wait for it to refresh. This means my DPS is a little worse but oh well!
|
took me like 5 years of barding before developping it.
Mine's severe though, on waiting list for surgery (they basically cut your wrist's nerves and re-attach it) there's a reason i switched mains and sacced my bard heh also you can feel pain and symptoms just from every day computer useage such as surfing / typing / moving mouse |

Related.... a friend wants to know ... what happens to people who sit in a tunnel all day for too long? |
I'm going to the doctor soon for my mouse wrist. I don't think I have carpal tunnel, but I believe I have a small cyst that's been irritated by the constant rotating the mouse to move in circles. My wrist has been feeling pretty sore over the past two weeks.
I had a cyst removed on my other wrist a few years ago, and the symptoms seem somewhat similar (I've had some others removed from random places.) I'm not super thrilled to have it removed because I won't be able to use my wrist at all for a few weeks/a month. |
