Sharks in Qeynos Aquaducts leave poll, float through air, and kill me.

Bad enough I fell for the long forgotten bullshit no-win kill a newbie hahaha crap of the rogue guild dropping you into the shark pool through a false floor. Ok, THAT I could deal with. But to then run all the effing way back from Halas, requiring slooooooooow hide and sneak past gnolls, only to die AGAIN on CR because the sharks levitate out of the water and kill me in a bullshit bug... well, it's crap like this that drives me to not bother logging in for a while. I mean why even bother if it's multiple no win situations that we've known since the dawn of human civilization are not fun, one after the other, making the game essentially unplayable in reasonable terms? One gotcha by original devs I can take, and re-learn after all these years. Not multiple bullshit moments one after the other.

So is this BS really classic? Fish levitating out of water to slaughter everyone who foolishly thinks the world might possibly behave in a sensible fashion?

It is known (and possibly classic?). I have seen this & also killed fish on land also after being chased in Loio or other watery spots with unfriendly floaters.

Barbarians have a tough life try making a dwarf or halfling rogue

Yet they spend time taking light blue cons away, while leaving flying fish and broken inert potion quest.

I do think being 'classic' is important, but their priorities are fucked up imo.

There has been recent discussion amongst devs about water npcs. It did happen in classic, but I'm not saying it should.

It's being looked into, but it's not an easy fix because there are pathing concerns.

For everything that wasn't a bug report in here, I don't give a fuck/keep it to yourself.

God damn that UI is so classic. I can just hope one day this server has that UI built in and required.

classic EQ not for this guy

Wizardling 08-27-2014 06:22 PM

Right, because I have not played EQ for a decade and a half, and this isn't my ninth alt here on 1999, Grimjaw. Clearly I'm not classic material, given all that. It's not that stupid bugs are killing me, it's that I can't hack classic.

Anyway, after returning AGAIN on my second CR, I was successful, but then killed a few minutes later when I became stuck between a bridge and wall in the Qeynos Aquaducts, with a giant rat beating on me. I died a third time - the second due to a bug, after only a couple minutes with my gear again.

I have no problem dying due to my own stupidity, Grimjaw, and I can handle dying because the original devs thought I should learn via death about a false floor (hahaha! Yeah, that was never funny in a location frequently by new toons). That only mildly pisses me off. What I DO find difficult to deal with is running back - taking a good half an hour - only to immediately die due to a moronic bug - true classic or not, it's just plain bad - and then, to die a THIRD time minutes after another half hour run back on CR, due to yet another freaking bug - this time being caught on scenery while a mob beats the shit out of me.

I enjoy classic EQ. I like difficulty - the fear of significant setback adds an edge to death that makes trying to stay alive and avoiding death a real buzz, and achievements in the face of that all the sweeter - unlike virtually every modern MMO excepting Eve Online, of course.

What I do not like is dying for purely bullshit reasons, and frankly I could care less if that's true classic (I don't recall if flying fish really were present way back, but hey - maybe they were. I never spent much time fighting water mobs - I never liked the way swimming works in EQ). I didn't like dying due to getting trapped in scenery while in a fight a decade and a half ago (that I DO recall), and I sure as hell don't enjoy it nowadays. It adds nothing to the game, unless you call swearing at the stupidity and pointlessness of a death a classic experience worth having. I don't.

Death should happen because _I_ failed. Not because the game failed. True classic or not, my vote - for whatever that's worth - is to also fix classic bugs. Bugs mind you. Not remove difficulty that ought to be there. But situations where the game fails in buggy fashion.
