outfitting a monk on the cheap

I was going to make some Wu's armor, but I'm reading that's not available on this server. Any suggestions on something I can buy/craft for under 100pp?

Cured Silk Armor is a cheap option for low level monks. Gives ac, looks like the cool monk-specific armor, and is light weight. It can be crafted or it can be purchased for approx. 100pp.

IIRC, the gloves can still be made currently. I can make cured silk if you're looking. 2pp/ac, 100pp for full suit. Less if you provide silks. Let me know if you need anything!

This was my untwinked Monk's gear progression:
1st thing I got was dual trance sticks, they go for 100-150pp a pop
2nd was wu's quivering staff for 2hb style - 200ppish (I found one on a NPC in the Monk guild for 19pp - LUCK)
3rd was raising tailoring/brewing to make my own set of cured silk (Field of Bone is spider silk rich)
4th - save, save for platinum fire rings about 450-500pp for the set
5th- hardest part...saved, farmed, stole, begged till I had 8.5k for FBSS (HHK guards FTW!)
- Currently 37 now, have acquired full set of crescent to replace some cured pieces.
I took time to farm a couple shralock 25% Weight Redux packs...very handy.
Not an elitists guide by any means, but a blue collar approach I guess..

Good advice. My necro is 14 and has about 15 stacks of silk swatches from killing spiders/spiderlings in FoB. Tailoring up to cured is super easy and cheap if you collect silks yourself.

Similar path from me as well, although I upgraded a few slots along the way. As I still need a haste item and am a couple thousand plat away from an FBSS, I suggest you follow this guy's strategy.

Most important items up front are a good weapon and a pair of those rings.

1) wu's quivering staff
2) 2x 5/55 rings
3) fbss

Thanks for all the good advice. This is an alt for a static group, so 100p is pretty much the limit of what I can afford right now. DBX, I may take you up on the cured silk, depending on how well my crafting goes before we start the group running.

Again, thanks everyone!

I'd second crafting for cured. I made raw silk to skill up (managed full raw set by level 8, IIRC), then cured, and had my last piece of cured - the gi - by level 15 :-) Had I characters able to fund an alt at that stage with even just 100p or so, I'd have been able to halve the time it took to get tailoring up to the point where cured wasn't failing to combine so much that it took too much money and mats. Still, even only completing my cured set by 15 (with some Wu's gloves my next goal, now I no longer have silk combines to fund), I was very happy. Richer players able to twink might not have thought much of my monk's achievement, but from scratch with zero help, gifts, or twinking, and collecting all my own mats - I was pretty darn happy when I finally got my Gi to combine, and completed the set :-)
