Considering trying out Red...
So I'm considering trying out Red, but I'm not terribly familiar with EQ PvP. Anybody here wanna give a quick rundown of the viability of a new player as one of the melee or hybrid classes? (Not a fan of playing pure int/wis casters)
EDIT: I'm particularly curious about how viable Rangers and/or Bards are. |
You can rock a bard naked forever, would probably do that if you're looking for pals. Rangers are pretty cool too imo but they take work. Historically, people have done more with less so I think you'll be alright.
As for tactics, think on your feet. I'm not sure if I've ever played another game where a sense of awareness as a player was one of the top attributes. Everquest. |
Bard would be a great choice. No equipment needed and you can run
away from most PKers, if you want to. Probably won't get a lot of kills, but with a partner, you will be very valuable in PvP. SK, Paladin, Ranger all decent, but you have to gear them up. Sk great because of HT. Paladins tough to kill. Other good thing about red is that most peeps don't give a crap about the hybrid penalty. The group XP bonus is so good, that most groups will take hybrids because they want warm bodies... |
Also never have enough bards for endgame if you make it there. Everyone loves a bard for pvp/raids.

Decided to try out a bard. Currently sitting at my super impressive level 3 in Gfay killing things heh

Awesome, I'll be around. Bard's name is Krokblar.

Bards are definitely a way to go, you will easily secure a raiding spot in the top guilds if you make it to 60, and come velious, you would be invaluable for mass pvp in outdoor zones and ferrying the raid across large open zones.

Bards are annoying in PvP (in terms of trying to kill them), you'll enjoy it here.
