DAOC Classic Freeshards
 

Hi All,

I love playing P1999, and I've been leveling a bard and streaming some content, but I found an OLD DAOC Strategy Guide while cleaning out my attic, and I got a mini-itch for the game.

I've seen a few "freeshards" (Uthgard, Origins, and Dawn of Light), and I was wondering what was the closest to the experience you get on P1999, but for DAOC. Let me know which is your favorite and why.

Looks like Uthgard is down atm, but Origins is at roughly 400ish online, and Dawn of Light is 500 online.

Uthgard. I am currently waiting (along with MANY others) for it to come back up.

Cool. For Uthgard, what are the normal loads on the server during peak/non-peak?

Back when I played on it, it was around 600-800 weekend/primetime.
Offhours/workdays it was around 350-500. Never saw it drop below 300 except Christmas.

Long time. Scrooge would have more info than myself.

uthgard is where it was at. However, there was a shit ton of bugs that were in it for a long duration that made the game unplayable. Add in the fact that if you made a new character you were going against nothing but RR10+ that made it impossible to win solo.

Origins/Genesis was really fun, but the constant desynchs that ruined zones went unchecked for hours at times.

Other issues on that server included getting 15% of original XP if you were solo. A grp would literally get 200% more xp per mob than if you killed the same mob solo, it was stupid.


I led several relic raids and carried home 3 in my 2 months there. I know they switched the patch finally due to savages being OP as hell. I would give that a try first
