Forum Image Signatures

I've enabled the img tag for signatures. It's limited to 1 image. Try to keep them under 600x150 please.

In the signature portion of the User CP is says:

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 600 by 150 pixels or 1,000.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

Does the 1000kb limit apply to externally linked images as well?
