Planning on coming back
Hey all,
I am an Everquest player of old. Seeing this project is making me Nostalgic. I was an EQ beta player and when it went live I bought a computer at 14 just so I could play it. I remember the old days of camping for hours for 1 item and grinding Derv camps for Derv rings for gold to get backpacks. I have played many MMOs since EQ, but nothing ever comes close to it. When I heard about this from my brother, who was also an avid EQ player, I knew I had to try it. I am posting because I wanted hear everyone's opinions on this project and also I want to know how far along the servers are. I sorely miss the days of simple EQ without even Kunark. When going into Befallen to get the Bone Bladed Clay-more or Unrest for the Dwarven Work Boots was a feat unto itself. So, as most of you may be laughing or ready to troll me, I Just want to know a few things: First: How far along are the servers at this point? Second: If they are farther along, is there plans to start more servers that start at the very beginning? Third: How does everyone relate what Project 99 has done thus far compared to the original EQ? Fourth: What do you all think of it? I appreciate the input from everyone! 1. Kunark
2. Further along than what? No plans to start more servers. 3. Don't know, I'm not everyone, but I think they've done an incredible job of restoring classic. 4. I like it. |
Thanks for the response.
I just found my titanium CDs and will be Downloading it tonight to start. Might be LFG in a Zone near you! Any suggestions on a class/what is needed? I played almost every class and loved them. |

But that being said ... Strong Classes in This Era: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Enchanter, Monk, Necromancer, Rogue, Shaman, Warrior These classes are over-represented, but for a reason: they're good. Druid/Enchanters/Necromancers/Shaman might be particularly popular, but then again many of their players just solo so they don't all compete for groups. Weak Classes in This Era: Ranger, Wizard Justified or not these two classes are hated on by the community, and so are (comparatively) rare. Of course, everyone wants Wizards to help them raid, and Rangers to help them get their Sebilis key, but you might have a harder time getting a group with either one. Mages almost made this list; it's not that they're bad, it's just that Necromancers are very similar and are a lot less one-dimensional so fewer people pick Mage. "Essential" Classes: Cleric, Enchanter, Shaman, Warrior As always, most people's "ideal group" is these four plus two DPS classes (and Rogues, being the best group DPS, are particularly desired). Solo Classes: Druid, Enchanter, Mage, Necromancer, Shaman All of these classes can solo AND don't require much in the way of gear, making them great starting classes. You can level them up without gear, then use them to farm gear for alts that do need gear. You could add Bard to this list, but their soloing tends to focus on (amazingly fast) XP; they're not as good at farming gear in dungeons like the casters are. A few other thoughts:
Hope that helps. |
Lies Asgard can always use more planes porters. Roll wiz, go Asgard. But very good post! Minus the mild mage envy.
Best advice is roll what you enjoy. Only class he left out is paladin, they go in the hated catagory. Imo take wiz out and paladin in hated catagory. |

#2 if you're interested the admins have mentioned in the past about making a teams pvp server at some point after Velious smooths out.
Other than that see the above posts. Welcome to the server friend! |
Necro is a great class to start with. Easy to solo, not gear dependent, and can farm for plat at early levels. Iksars are the best necros!
