Not experienced enough for inter-planar zoning

I'm getting a strange error when I try to zone into low level dungeons on a new alt. Tried Befallen and Runnyeye. When I hit the zone I'm immediately kicked out and see in red something along the lines of "you're not experienced enough for inter-planar zoning".

Anyone else experience this and know what the fix is? I've tried everything I could think of and nothing :(

Isn't that the message you get when you try to take a level <45 toon to the planes (Air/Fear/Hate)? Clearly you shouldn't be getting that going in to lowbie dungeon zones, so perhaps your zone files are messed up somehow.

You could test that theory by zoning in to those same zones with a different character. If it works, then you know the problem is character-specific: try deleting all the files with that character's name in your EQ directory. You'll lose your friend list and window arrangement and such but it might fix things.

If you get the same error with another character (or if you don't have another character to try) then you might just want to try reinstalling EQ entirely. It might be overkill, but that usually resolves client-side problems.

Good luck.

Thanks for the response.

I tried going in with a 23 Monk and it worked.

Then leveled the fresh character to level 3 before trying again and the error still happened. And yes that seems to be the error for entering the planes so it's strange.

I'll try your other suggestions.

Still the same issue. Here is the exact error by the way:

[Tue Apr 14 13:38:11 2015] a goblin warrior scowls at you, ready to attack -- looks like quite a gamble.
[Tue Apr 14 13:38:22 2015] You are not yet experienced enough to pass through an inter-planar portal.
[Tue Apr 14 13:38:22 2015] A goblin warrior crushes YOU for 1 point of damage.

Was trying to zone into Runnyeye

had the same issue with Nagafen's Lair (SolB)

Some zones do require level 5 or higher to enter. Kael is one example. I didn't think Runnyeye was one of them, but you said you were level 3. Try again at level 5.

I've never tried to enter a zone that requires level 5 on a lower level character, but they may just use the same message as planes out of laziness.

This was an unclassic change specific to p99 to prevent people from running level 1 alts into certain zones.

I've seen the sub-5 message on alts before, I don't remember exactly what it says but it's definitely not the same as the inter-planar portal message. Very weird.

I think every dungeon except maybe blackburrow and crushbone require level 5. I have never seen the message, though.

I don't really understand the rationale, it's not that hard to get to level 5. What were they trying to prevent? Lvl 1s looting tov drops but lvl 5s are okay?

You can make new accounts for free, so botting or spamming accounts can be an issue. Requiring someone to get to level 5 first makes them spend at least an hour or two on each account before they can do whatever they were planning.
