I thought it was a no fail combine

According to everything I have read making thread or a silk swatch is no fail. How come when ever I try it, even though I am level 5 tailoring, I fail and lose the webs? Is this a bug? Has everything I've read been wrong? Webs are not totally easy to get and I've lost 6. I don't dare try more till I know. Please let me know!

This. No fail means as long as your skill is at the level which causes the item to be trivial, you won't fail, not that you will always succeed on the combine regardless of skill.

It may be frowned upon, but if I start a tradeskill on a character I'll throw 10 of my training points at it to get started. Skilling up from 0-10 is definitely harder than 10+, in my experience.

These also shouldn't stack until velious. Causing them to not stack would turn everyone's stacks in their inventories into single items. Until then, they can fail.

My opinion, since you'll run across a lot of raw materials if you're hunting in the right places, is to just raise your skill that way. Having a high wis or int helps a lot for skillups, too. Leveling tailoring on my wizard with near 200 int was UNBELIEVABLY easier than on my monk with 75ish int.

You have a higher % to skill up on a combine success, but you can't avoid failures every now and then...

I noticed that I was having no fail combines fail...I thought there might be a good reason. There it is :)

I think this is a pretty darn good compromise...

Personally, I like to try and make things that I'm going to use when tradeskilling, such as making studded or banded armor on my Barbarian Warrior (which I'm no longer playing). It makes it a lot more worthwhile than just making it and selling it back to the merchant.
