Holyforge Discipline should critical on live mobs?

Allakhazam comments seem to show that circa 2003-4 the Paladin discipline Holyforge should:
  • Critical hit against any target
  • Crippling hit against undead targets

Is this how the discipline always functioned? And does the discipline currently function this way on Velious beta?

couldnt all melee critical by 2003?

second comment seems to sum it up - "increases your chance to critical, but not by much" (implying that they could innately by then)

I think the critical on non undead type NPCs with Holyforge was a bug that was introduced with Luclin AA's where all melee could crit.

I seem to recall a screenshot that showed Holyforge critting vs a non undead NPC with the stone UI though so I could be wrong.

Holyforge should only be vs undead until Luclin comes out.

I remember that being a big deal.

Dont have much time, use wayback machine for paladins of norrath website there is posts in there about it and about how non consistent was holyforge during velious.

in response to other people posts.
with aas every class could perform critics , paladins could only under holyforge do critics to live mobs and crips to undead.
when introduced during luclin original slay undead allowed to perform in regular fashion 15k dmg with a single slay and 30 while using holyforge . used for few paladins for solo shit like vs ( u needed a 50+ dmg 2hander in my case tunare one ).

eventualy slay was nerfed , mostly thanks to the wizard community as a backlash of the manaburn nerf. holyforge allowed u to turn every critic into a slay and would double slay value .

that was removed.

http://eqclerics.org/forums/showthread.php?t=12622

quick link of our half brothers about it.

eventualy the discussion about to turn slay into a triggered attack like harmtouch etc was ditched infavour of the classical sony nerf, they just reduced nerfed slay dmg and ability of holyforge to affect slay% to the point holyforge was 100% useles untill they reversed some of the damage back in 2004

peace gotta go and phone post

anyways holyforge disc is pherhaps the less understand of all the classic disciplines because it suffered alot of changes due to be tied with the paladin aa slay undead.

http://crucible.samanna.net/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4603

if u want to have a interesting read up about how holyforge was tied to slay and why it was changed so many times.

Prior to the changes 50% of critical hits were converted to Slays and Holyforge increased critical hits 200%(or 3x). Therefore Holyforge was a powerful disc for fighting undead. The PoP era change to Slay Undead ended the relationship between critical hits and Slays. No longer were 50% of critical hits converted to Slays. Of course this was a big nerf to Holyforge as it lost some of its power against undead. For years I have operated under the idea that at this time a change was also made for the game to check for critical hits and then slays(if a failure for critical). Such a system would have an even bigger negative impact on Holyforge vs. undead with Holyforge's huge increase to critical hits. So, I am glad to

slay is AA (luclin) so all we need to find is velious discussion about holyforge then

Pint 06-25-2015 09:20 PM

So all talk of slay aside, holyforge did or did not crit against live mobs in velious?

Arteker 06-26-2015 11:14 AM

yes
